What if a little girl made a wish that saw Ireland qualify for the World Cup? What if that girl, the Irish kit-man's daughter, Romy Kelly, helped put the greatest teams in the world under pressure?

Romy is a 10-year-old girl who lives with a football-mad family. Her father happens to be the kit-man for the Irish football team. All hell breaks loose when she wishes for Ireland to qualify for the World Cup and her wish comes true.

We follow Romy and her little brother as they accompany their dad to the tournament. As the Irish team progresses through the group stages could her wish come true? Could Italia 90 happen again? Could we see pens flying across studio desks in RT ? Listen and find out!

Romy's World Cup Wish is a 5-part radio drama with Episode 1 dropping Monday 21st November and a new episode landing every Monday for four weeks. Final episode will drop on Sunday 18th December (World Cup Final Day).

The cast

The main role of Romy is played by Sadhbh Marshall Coghlan and introducing Roy Mac Giolla Ph draig as her long-suffering brother Elliott.

A stellar lineup of sporting legends tog out for this drama. RT Football Correspondent Tony O'Donoghue stars as the narrator while Mario Rosenstock provides the voices of Romy's inner voices Obi-Roy-Keano-Boi and Graeme (Souness). He also voices Stephen Kenny, Richie Sadlier, Brian Kerr and Eamon Dunphy.

Bryan Dobson, Sharon Tobin, Des Cahill, Reem El -Hassany and Jacqui Hurley all make cameos as themselves!

George Hamilton yes, THE George Hamilton provides the commentary for the Ireland matches as they progress through the group stages spoiler alert we may get revenge against France for Henry's handball!

Romy's World Cup Wish is based on an original idea by Eimear O'Mahony, Executive Producer RT Young People's Department. Eimear said, I remember watching Ireland in Italia 90 as a child and the joy that gave me. I think this drama is a way of recreating that feeling of following Ireland at a tournament abroad. Karl has really captured that feeling and written a really funny drama that's also full of heart. Have your inflatable shamrocks ready when you listen to this!
