Seminole County Public Schools Speed Data Access with NetApp NetApp FAS8040HA storage and AltaVault backup-to-cloud solutions provide nonstop, secure data access and fast application response to over 40 departments within Seminole County Public Schools
Sunnyvale, Calif. - May 11, 2016 - Becoming a premier educational system and a national model of excellence takes both dedication and technology. We realized that to achieve our goals, we needed to transform and upgrade our existing infrastructure, said Tom Condo, supervisor of IS Operations at Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS). Using NetApp FAS8040HA storage and AltaVault backup-to-cloud solutions we now provide nonstop data access and fast application response to more than 40 departments, from Digital Learning and Dining Services to Payroll and Security productive, as well as benefit from cost savings that pave the way for more IT enhancements.
With 66,000 students in 67 schools, Florida-based SCPS ranks among the largest public education systems in the United States. It has been recognized at state and national levels-and even by the White House-for its leadership role in transforming education through technology. In order to continue to drive scholastic excellence, SCPS needed to update its IT infrastructure from an aging SAN to a more flexible model designed to deliver the per formance and capacity necessary to support the district's collaboration, innovation and growth.
NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) partner, Greyson Technologies Inc. recommended an 84TB NetApp FAS8040HA hybrid storage array and a NetApp AltaVault AVA400 cloud-integrated storage appliance to supply a fast, efficient and secure backup to cloud solution. SCPS found that the FAS8040HA platform, with NetApp Flash Pool and NetApp clustered Data ONTAP technologies, lowered operational costs and management complexity while improving accessibility and responsiveness for critical administrative, student, and public-facing applications and websites. In fact, response time for SCPSs Food Services website, where students and parents fund lunch accounts, went from over a minute to seconds soon after deployment.
