Effective and efficient planning, obtaining, setting up, testing and operating sound equipment during TV productions in order to contribute to effective broadcasting, Check the working order of equipment and cables and report faults for repairs, to ensure proper working order of all sound equipment utilised in an OB unit
Perform first line equipment maintenance or immediately report faulty equipment to OB technician and sound crew leader.
Correct recording and mixing of sound, monitoring and controlling the quality of the sound mix to ensure optimal sound quality for different productions
Stand in for the Principal Sound Operator when he is away from work.
Liaise with Principal Sound Operator, Unit Supervisor and customers in order to deliver required output
Mentoring of junior operators
Be up-to-date with mixing in a digital audio domain, for mono, stereo and surround sound
Perform trouble shooting and emergency procedures quickly and effectively
Rigging and patching of cables and equipment as per production requirements
Be responsible for the rigging and de-rigging of equipment
Be responsible for the safe keeping of equipment during productions and ensure their safe return to OB base
Keep up to date with the latest audio technological and operational advances
Be able to work independently or as part of a team
Participate in performance management as part of your job requirement
Minimum requirements
Grade 12 plus Sound Engineering Diploma.
3 years' experience as a sound operator in outside broadcast sound operations
Must pass the fitness for work certification
Code EB (old code 08) driver's licence.
Must be willing to work long hours and be away from home for extended periods, especially over weekends.
