Christianity is one of the world's dominant religions, with more than 80% of South Africans following this faith. Some Christians believe that Jesus Christ, their Saviour, will one day return.

Unfortunately, many people have also claimed to be Jesus Christ in the flesh.

Conditions like schizophrenia or brain injuries can trigger religious delusions. It's scientifically called the Messiah Complex', when someone believes that they are Christ or Christlike.

There are many people who have claimed to be Jesus who has come back.

Here are four people who claimed to be Jesus.

Christianity: People who claimed to be Jesus The Bible says that Christ will return.

There are many people who have claimed Christlike heritage or abilities. Some people have claimed they are Jesus directly, or descendants from his family line.

The Bible also talks about false Christs (in Matthew).

People who claim to be Jesus have found hundreds of followers. Unfortunately, this belief can be extremely harmful to congregants and believers.

David Icke is one example. He claimed to be Jesus during a live interview in 1991. Today, he writes about reptillian conspiracies and other things.

Here's more about four interesting figures.

Christianity: David Icke David Icke is an ex-football player and television personality. He's also a writer and conspiracy theorist.

Icke was born in 1952.

He claimed to be Jesus in a 1991 BBC interview, changing his look to match. He later changed this belief, writing books about reptillian conspiracies.'

Icke remains an influencer and writer.

Christianity: Sun Myung Moon Sun Myung Moon (1920 to 2012) started the Unification Church.

Believers soon followed Sun Myung Moon, who told followers they were Christ Returned.

Moon and his wife soon amassed a small following as humanity's new parents'.

Christianity: Inri Christo Inri Christo takes his name from the phrase in classic Christian art, often depicted above Christ's head.

Inri is a Brazillian man who has been claiming to receive messages from God since 1969.

He's a famous personality for many people.

Inri wears robes and a long beard. He even has a website.

Christianity: Ariffin Mohammed Ariffin Mohammed started the Sky Kingdom group, considered a cult and banned in Malaysia.

They were born in 1942, and would later amass a group of followers.

The Sky Kingdom cult believed they were directly following Christ's new form.

What does the Bible say? These aren't the only people who have tried to convince Christianity that they're Jesus.

The Book of Matthew talks about false Christs and false prophets'

Someone who claims to be a Messiah probably isn't one. Could some of these false Christs' have claimed to be Jesus?
