Lawo equipment in Ruian Radio and TV stations

The All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) is currently undergoing the Russian Government program of regional TV infrastructure modernization. This has been an ongoing process over the last eight years. In 2013, the leading system integrator in the Russian Federation OKNO-TV' was involved in the system design of a local news studio production facility, which included the newsroom computer system, RCS and MAM, the Central Switching Room and the Regional Channel Continuity Suite.

The actual basic system solution was formed by the VGTRK Russian Television Region Operation Team. OKNO-TV then developed the final system design by proposing the most improved and cost effective software and hardware products and their own services. In 2014, OKNO-TV also implemented the final system solution into 37 TV stations around Russia, working in cooperation with other system integrators from Russia and the CIS. In 2015, OKNO-TV as the chief system integrator together with the equipment suppliers SPRO, PTSYS and VIDAU, extended the implementation to an additional 23 local stations.

During the system design process, OKNO-TV recommended to the Russian Television Region Operation Team that they incorporate Lawo hardware solutions into the project as they are a very reliable, well known and state-of-the-art product. On the basis of Lawo being one of the leaders in the modern audio equipment market and having had a previous successful experience of Lawo product implementation in the Russian Television Broadcast Company, this proposal was accepted.

In 2014 and 2015, sets of Lawo equipment including the sapphire console and the DALLIS Matrix with integrated different interface cards and a compact crystal audio console were delivered to the regions. Both are suitable for many different technological processes of audio production in regional stations. The Lawo V__pro8 product has also been integrated into the system as an effective video and audio glue device with frame synchronization functionality to control the sync of all external lines and up-conversion of the external SD video signals, which are still present in local stations in Russia.

The Lawo products - currently 14 sapphire desks, 50 crystal consoles and 62 V__pro8 units - have been implemented in more than 45 regional branches of the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. The production operation during 2015 and 2016 has confirmed the recommendations at the beginning design stage concerning the high parameters of usability, functionality and reliability of the Lawo devices. Using the Lawo equipment the regional TV and radio stations gain workflow flexibility and future proof technological solutions to be beneficial in daily operation and to be prepared for possible production changes in the future.
