shnit International Shortfilmfestival FINALE 2015: THE WINNERS

Sunday 18th October saw shnit International Shortfilmfestival close in style as VIP guests, fans and filmmakers packed New York's elegant rooftop event space The Skylark to celebrate the presentation of the festival's International Awards in five categories and $100,000 in cash prizes.

Jury President, Academy Award-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher poured praise onto the nominees as he took to the stage to personally award three Jury category prizes, highlighting the depth and artistry of all of the nominees, noting that, Together, these films represent one of the most remarkable collections of short films that Ive ever seen, addressing a receptive audience during a low key, vibrant and frequently funny ceremony that also saw him in conversation with Festival Director Olivier van der Hoeven and host Sean Drummond.

In addition to the Jury prizes, two international Audience Awards were presented. PLAYGROUNDS voting took place over the official festival weekend in Bern, Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Moscow and San Jose, and again during the shnit CINEMAS run in multiple cities around the world in the lead up to the Finale. Each award represents a collective global vote.

The five winning filmmakers had flown in from all around the world and gave heartfelt acceptance speeches. Each receives the coveted Flaming Faun trophy - designed and cast in bronze and 18 carat gold and mounted on a black slate foundation stone as well as $20,000 in cash.

A world's worth of festival managers were present to see the winners awarded. In addition to the International Awards, Jury and Audience awards were presented in six of shnit's eight host cities.

In a year that saw thousands of entries into the festival, shnit's exponential growth continues and the festival continues to make its mark as one of the planet's most exciting short film platforms.

Shnit will return in October 2016.
