Prime Video Embarks on Fifth Exclusive Season of Thursday Night Football With Innovation, Experience in Tow

Lions vs. Bills will also be the first regular-season game at new Highmark Stadium

Prime Video may be the final national rightsholder to begin their 2026 NFL schedule, but they'll be doing so in the first regular-season game in the history of the new Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, NY. With a tantalizing start to the fifth exclusive season of Thursday Night Football, the streamer has created solid footing for broadcasts through tech ingenuity over the past four years.

It's a testament to previous iterations of Thursday Night Football as well as a testament to what we've built over the last four seasons, says Mike Muriano, executive producer, Prime Video. I'm so honored to be a part of this team that has so much camaraderie.

The First of Many: Streamer To Be First National Entity to Broadcast Regular-Season Game at New Highmark Stadium

There aren't many gameday experiences like one in Western New York. Bills Mafia shows out in droves, and regardless of the weather, Highmark Stadium will set an awesome environment for the production team in Buffalo. When the schedule was announced, Muriano and his team have had this game circled for quite a while. With an entire offseason to prep for this momentous occasion both internally and externally with the Bills' operations staff, they'll be tapping into the good vibes of the crowds inside of the venue.

We expect the same energy from other games that we've produced in Buffalo, but it'll be kicked into overdrive because this is the home opener and the stadium's debut on a national stage, he says. We've been dialoguing with the Bills since early May for site surveys and have had an open line of communication on things like sight lines and where trucks are parked. It's been a challenge, but a welcomed challenge.

From a programming perspective, to capture this energy from both inside and outside the stadium, the pregame show will have an extra 30 minutes during TNF Tonight: Tailgate at 6:30 p.m. ET before TNF Tonight with host Charissa Thompson and analysts Tony Gonzalez, Richard Sherman, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Andrew Whitworth airs at 7 p.m. ET. The quintet will take viewers through postgame on TNF Nightcap.

These shows will also include reporters Taylor Rooks and James Palmer as well as N Yo City segments with Marshawn Lynch. On the call, play-by-play announcer Al Michaels will take part in an incredible 10th stadium-opening game in his career. The other nine stadiums were Gilette Stadium in Foxborough, MA in 2002, the renovated Soldier Field in Chicago and Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia in 2003, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis in 2008, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX in 2009, Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA in 2014, U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis in 2016, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in 2017, and SoFi Stadium in 2020. He'll be joined by analyst Kirk Herbstreit and sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung. Prime Video will also produce TNF en Espa ol for Spanish-speaking audiences with play-by-play announcer Miguel Gurwitz and analyst Rolando Cant .

Thursday night's first game will see the implementation of numerous front-facing and behind-the-scenes technologies. Starting off in Buffalo and seen throughout the full slate of games in 2026-27, these 1080p HDR broadcasts with 5.1 surround sound audio will come with a Prime Video- and AWS-created solution to deliver ultra-low latency and synchronization. All shows will be produced onsite, which is supported by the tireless work of Prime Video's operations team.

That team is filled with experts in all areas, and they continue to be great at handling the curveballs that our production team throws at them adds Muriano. We're almost in daily contact with them to make sure they know how we'd like the show to go. Our production comes with its general building blocks, but each show is different since we're travelling to a new location. It's not a small feat to bring this show on the road every week.

Their 50-camera shows will also be accompanied by multiple digital enhancements and second-screen experiences. On the legalized sports betting front through their partnership with FanDuel, the personalized Bet Tracking tool allows fans to stay up to date on active bets placed through their FanDuel account. Although the feature doesn't allow bets to be placed directly from Prime Video, the feature also presents a rotating feed of live odds, lines, and probabilities as well as information pertaining to money lines, spreads, totals, parlays, and more. An experience that was launched during Prime Video's inaugural NBA season in 2025, the team will roll this out for the NFL season.

The Bet Tracking tool is joined by a large list of other additives that are integrated into the traditional broadcast. These include Key Moments that show fans the most exciting plays in real-time as well as on-demand highlights, integration of the NFL's Next-Gen Stats powered by AWS, Shop the Game that directs viewers to official merch of both participating teams, and Rapid Recap for an AI-powered highlight that catches fans up to speed on the action in two minutes or less for those that are just tuning in.

In addition, Prime Video's other digital offerings include exclusive views from above through Skycam, in-game analysis from analytics expert Sam Schwartzstein, and the return of Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats.
