Pebble Beach estrenar en NAB 2016 su nueva soluci n de canal IP virtual definido por software, Orca. Dise ado para satisfacer las necesidades de centros de centralcast, proveedores de servicios, MCOs (Operadores de canales m ltiples), broadcasters de deportes, y empresas tales como editoras que buscan nuevas maneras de informar a sus audiencias, Orca proporciona una opci n flexible para implementar o contratar canales basados en IP, casi instant neamente, sin el factor limitante de racks de hardware complicado y semanas o meses de configuraci n y preparaci n.
Como un planteamiento de channel-in-a-box, los canales de Orca se ejecutan en una m quina virtual (VM) en una nube privada con entradas y salidas IP. Orca proporciona todas las funcionalidades que antes requer an de hardware discreto para servidores de video y sistemas de gr ficos y captioning, dentro de un entorno puramente de software. La operaci n completamente aut noma de los canales es posible ahora v a administraci n remota, disponible a trav s de interfaces de navegador seguras pero est ndares.
Ian Cockett, director t cnico de Pebble Beach, reconoce que mientras aquellos sistemas que ofrecen componentes de software integrados que se ejecutan en hardware de TI comercial han ido ganando popularidad, en realidad, llevar la infraestructura hacia la nube es el siguiente paso, ya que las empresas de broadcast buscan la evoluci n de servicios basados en IP en paralelo con m todos m s tradicionales de entrega de canales. La flexibilidad para proveer y desinstalar canales de forma din mica, en un instante, es un concepto revolucionario para las empresas acostumbradas a la manera antigua de hacer las cosas. Sin embargo, con los presupuestos y cronogramas de hoy en d a, Orca ha llegado en el momento perfecto para las organizaciones que buscan una soluci n pura de video sobre IP .
Virtual implementation
Orca ofrece una implementaci n virtual, nicamente de software, de la plataforma Dolphin de la empresa. Al igual que con Dolphin, los canales definidos por software de Orca se pueden configurar para satisfacer las necesidades exactas de cada servicio. Como Dolphin y Orca comparten fundamentalmente la misma arquitectura y control, es f cil repetir plantillas predefinidas de canal para la emisi n simult nea hacia SDI tradicional y la distribuci n de video sobre IP.
Un elemento realmente innovador de Orca es la capacidad de crear nuevos canales IP desde una serie de plantillas con el clic de un bot n, lo que permite su r pida implementaci n en un sistema al aire sin necesidad de reiniciarlo o de hacer cambios en la configuraci n. Los canales pueden ser lanzados e integrados en un sistema de automatizaci n Marina en funcionamiento, literalmente con el clic de un bot n. La soluci n tambi n puede ofrecer potencia GPU con base en matriz (Grid based GPU power) para la codificaci n y los gr ficos, ahorrando la potencia de la CPU para permitir que Orca aumente la cantidad de canales de forma m s rentable para el usuario final.
