Once a year-on Veterans Day-the Anthem Veterans Memorial just outside of Phoenix, Arizona comes to life at precisely 11:11 AM. The sun's rays align with its five pillars to briefly illuminate a glass mosaic medallion of the Great Seal of the United States.

The memorial was conceived by retired Rear Adm. Ronald D. Tucker in 2009 and designed by Renee Palmer-Jones, a local artist. It was dedicated on November 11, 2011 with an opening ceremony and has since been designated a historic landmark.

But perhaps the greatest recognition to come to the Anthem Veteran Memorial has been its viral spread across the Internet. The beauty and symbolism of the monument sent it rocketing to the top of social sites like Reddit-seeming to strike a chord with the general population, especially on Veterans Day.

The Anthem Community Council provides a full description of the memorial's design and history on their website. Here's an excerpt:

The five pillars represent the five branches of the United States military. They are staggered in size and the military seal placements on each pillar are based upon the Department of Defense prescribed precedence, ranging from the United States Army, the United States Marine Corps, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force, and the United States Coast Guard.

Renee explains, The objective of the Anthem Veterans Memorial is that the sun will illuminate every Veterans Day the glory of the American eagle mosaic which lay at the heart of the Memorial that is forever surrounded, loved and protected by our veterans.
