Music Lovers Look Forward to First Ever Yanni Concert...

ADDITIONAL SEATS RELEASED AFTER TICKETS FOR AL MAJAZ AMPHITHEATRE SHOW WERE SOLD OUT; GREEK MAESTRO WHO HAS SOLD 25 MILLION COPIES WORLDWIDE PERFORMS ON FRIDAY

Tickets for the first ever Sharjah performance by the legendary Greek musician Yanni were totally sold out days ahead of the concert. The organisers subsequently released 150 additional seats responding to public demand. Yanni is set to enchant thousands of music lovers at Al Majaz Amphitheatre on Al Majaz Island in the middle of Sharjah's Khalid Lagoon. The Roman colosseum-style theatre can seat up to 4,500 spectators.

Hosted by Al Majaz Amphitheatre as part of Sharjah's efforts to promote appreciation of art and culture in the emirate and a spirit of peace, understanding and dialogue between cultures, there has been an unprecedented response to Yanni's concert. The Greek musical genius has more than 40 albums to his credit and has sold 25 million copies of his music worldwide.

Earlier responding to a question he said that he is as excited about performing in Sharjah as his fans are. The maestro said he was particularly excited about performing at the spectacular Al Majaz Amphitheatre with its Roman colosseum-style setting and panoramic view of the Khalid Lagoon. It is an honour to be able to perform in a spectacular venue such as the Al Majaz Amphitheatre, he said.

Yanni promised a feast of senses for his fans in the region saying he is planning to play many of his chartbusters as well as songs and scores especially composed for the Sharjah performance.

He said he has just finished recording his latest album which is going to be released to the public very shortly. A lot of the music that I have composed for this album has been greatly influenced and inspired by experiences within the Arab world. I am sure listeners to the album will easily identify the music that has this influence, he said.

The concert is part of the efforts put to encourage an international music culture in Sharjah and offer connoisseurs of music in the emirate an opportunity to enjoy artists such as Yanni, who is known for his universal message of peace, tolerance and rejection of all forms of discrimination in conformity with the true Arab and Islamic values and teachings.

Al Majaz Amphitheatre

Al Majaz Amphitheatre is one of the most prestigious projects unveiled by the Government of Sharjah last year to celebrate the Emirate's crowning as the Islamic Culture Capital 2014. It was built as an open, Roman colosseum-style theatre on the specifically created Al Majaz Island in the heart of Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah and is managed by Sharjah Media Centre.
