Help Keep Kids Warm This Winter: WRAL-TV's 29th Annual Coats for the Children Telethon Today

A coat. It seems so basic. But thousands of children in the WRAL-TV viewing area need one for the upcoming winter.

Coats for the Children is WRALs major community campaign to support disadvantaged families. We ask our viewers to donate gently used, clean coats, hats and gloves to outfit children for winter. We also collect new toys to make the holidays brighter for children at the Salvation Army.

WRALs 29th Annual Coats for the Children Telethon on December 8th will raise money to buy new winter clothing for local children in need. The telethon takes place today from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The big event kicks off at 6 a.m., with special coverage at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m on air and online.

You can help, right now! During todays WRAL-TV Coats for the Children Telethon call 919-744-3877 from 6am until midnight, or make a donation online. Or Text COATS to 41444 to make a debit/credit card gift of any size.

$25 provides a cozy hat, gloves and scarf

$45 buys sweatshirt/sweatpants & pajamas

$50 provides a warm coat

$75 gives a child a warm coat and a fun toy

$125 provides a complete winter outfit

$175 buys a complete winter outfit and toys

$250 provides complete winter outfits for two children

$25 x 12 = $300 Help a child all year with a $25 gift each month

Last year, during WRALs daylong Coats telethon, we collected more than 6,500 coats, hundreds of toys and raised $158,000 to buy warm coats, hats, gloves, long underwear, and other winter clothing for underprivileged children.

Since 1989, thanks to your generosity, WRAL has collected more than 158,000 coats and raised nearly $2 million to provide warm winter clothing for Salvation Army families in need.
