BerkleeICE s Creative Catalyst Series Brings Togeer Scientists and Musicians

Berklee Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship (BerkleeICE) founded to inspire, educate, and launch the next generation of creative entrepreneurs announced plans to host its first-ever Creative Catalyst event on March 23. Recognizing the distinctive vantage point of Boston as a cultural center for fostering the arts, as well as a city leading the charge in scientific innovation and discovery, this event will bring together some of Boston's leading academic minds in music and science to push the boundaries of creativity, performance, science, and innovation.

In this kickoff event, three department chairs at Berklee (Bonnie Hayes, Steve Bailey, Sean Jones) will pair with three world-renowned scientists (Calestous Juma, Jan Kondev, Joe Pedlosky) to tackle the event themes. BerkleeICE advisory group member Daniel Isenberg, a Babson and Harvard professor and former entrepreneur, will moderate this inaugural session of Creative Catalyst, adapted from the World Economic Forum's Creative Spark series he helped launch in 2014. In an improvisatory format, this session will explore the interplay between music and science centered around three themes: sustenance, resilience, and transcendence.

Boston's legacy as a technology hub and center of finance, coupled with its position as a cultural center, creates a unique opportunity for the city to foster the next-generation of creative entrepreneurs, said Panos Panay, founding managing director of BerkleeICE. At Berklee, we are on the forefront of exploring the relationship between the creative mindset and entrepreneurial spirit. This event is meant to further explore this critical relationship by bringing together leading minds from fields previously thought unrelated in order to inspire new and innovative ways to combine music, science and entrepreneurship.

Series host Daniel Isenberg added, In evaluating the key principles and techniques that musicians, scientists and entrepreneurs use, we realized that there was a great deal of overlap. This series will push the boundaries of these three groups, while also recognizing the strengths that lay in their commonalities.
