Pilot RT Two Way Street initiative comes to Ballymote, Sligo

RT is inviting people living in Ballymote, Co. Sligo, and the surrounding area, to join us on Wednesday 25th May to celebrate your community with a half-day of music, events, discussions, entertainment and debate as part of a new pilot initiative created by the RT Audience Council to connect with local communities in Ireland.

Would you like to find out how RT radio documentaries are made and learn more about your county? Would you like to take part in a master-class in writing for the small screen with a leading scriptwriter from RT One's Fair City? Are you a secondary school student who'd like to get an insight into the creative and innovative digital technologies being used in broadcast and online media? Then RT would like you to join us to explore and celebrate in Ballymote, Sligo from 1pm on Wednesday 25th May.

Kevin Bakhurst, Deputy Director-General RT , said: Good communications between RT and its audience are vital for the ongoing development of truly relevant public media, and the RT Audience Council has an important role to play in helping RT further understand the audience we serve. This pilot event will allow us to experiment in a fresh and engaging way with our audience in their own communities and to hear about the things that are important to them, while also using our programming and expertise to offer insights into the many popular services we provide. I'd like to thank the people of Ballymote for warmlywelcoming RT into their community.

What is the Audience Council?

The RT Audience Council is a group of 15 volunteers from across the country who works with the RT Board to engage with and understand the diverse needs of RT 's audience. RT 's Two Way Street is the first public initiative of the latest council. Visiting Ballymote in Sligo for the pilot event, the initiative has been developed to connect RT with communities and to hear what they have to say.

In addition to workshops, discussion and debate, RT jr's Twig n will put on some very special live shows for children in Scoil Mhuire Primary School (1pm & 2.30pm), while RT 's Blathnaid N Chofaigh will host a panel discussion on a range of issues, from women in media to rural affairs (details below). RT 2fm will also be there to pump out the tunes live from the RT 2fm Roadcaster.
