A town in Cixi crowned as China s bike spare parts industry base

Recently, China's bicycle component industry base was crowned on Shengshan Town, which makes Shengshan Town the 3rd domestic bicycle spare parts industry base.

Manufacturing of vehicle components at Shengshan began in early 1990s, and boomed in recent years as it brought in great brand reputation and economic impacts. Among the 108 enterprises, 24 put out more than 20 million RMB respectively, taking up 58.5% of the whole industrial enterprises in Shengshan. Bicycle parts manufacturer group led by SunRun, SAIGUAN Shunfeng, Haoyi, TRI-DIAMOND, thereby came into being.

Shengshan's main products include series components, such as derailleur, freewheel sprocket, crank and train-wheel, brake, pedal, steer, mean axis, etc. New materials, like carbon fiber, magnesium alloy, stainless steel are more or less used in production. Products are sold to dozens of countries and regions, namely the U.S, Germany, Japan, etc. Bicycle components made in Shengshan are in good quality, of reasonable price, unique strength and distinct style , said by Ma Zhongchao, council president of China Bicycle Association.

The honor of having nation-fame brands in Shengshan symbolizes a higher stage of Shengshan's bicycle component industry that is not any more confined to local areas. This also means Shengshan now embraces a brand-new development platform. Shengshan Town, China bicycle association, bicycle and e-bike industry association of Zhejiang province signed an Agreement on Jointly Developing China's Bicycle Component Industry Base, which is aimed to press ahead industry upgrading and structure reforms, promote the improvement of local economy and overall companies' ability from 2015 to 2018. In accordance to the agreement, Shengshan Town will enjoy a series of favorable policies, including policy support, platform expansion, info-communication, talent support, external publicity, etc.

Many enterprises were delightful to hear the news. It is considerably beneficial , head of SunRun Co. Ltd spoke highly of the agreement. He said this would bring about practical dividends to thebike parts manufacturers. It will not only raise brand reputation andimprove brand image, but also contribute to our cooperation with big companies or brands and expand more markets , he added.

The one trying to wear the crown must bear the weight. While enjoying the benefits brought by national brands, more rigid requests, more detailed standards, fiercer competition are awaiting those enterprises. As is mentioned in co-constructing contract, by 2018 Shengshan's bicycle components are expected to take up a quarter of the whole middle-and-high-end bicycle market , said a leader of Shengshan Town. However, currently the ratio is virtually below 10 percent. Accelerating the pace of innovating, investment in talent cultivation, reforms of product structure thus remain an urgent issue posed to the government and enterprises.

He told us that production places of middle and high-end bicycle components mainly assemble in foreign countries. In order to go into such markets, it is critical to seize the chance of starting up a new undertaking , and embark on technical innovation, transformation and upgrading.

As the notion of recreation, body building and green life is getting popular, bicycle has already evolved to a sports tool. The expansion of middle and high-end markets of mountain bike, road bicycle, etc. has brought great business opportunities. Sources say that in the future, production will continue to rise with the realization of giant-alliance, product intellectualization, differentiation, the advantage of internet plus , industry base location, Shengshan will be on the way of promoting industry transformations and upgrading.
