World TV Day: let s celebrate television, let s protect democracy

November 21st is a special day for all those who work in the Broadcast and Media&Entertainment industries: it is the World TV Day! A perfect moment to highlight everything that this powerful format is capable of offering its audiences: access to infinite cultural, sports, information and entertainment content that decisively contributes to transmit and preserve positive and democratic values.

As we can read in the event's official page, in 1996, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed November 21 as World Television Day, in recognition of the increasing impact television has on decision-making by alerting world attention to conflicts and threats to peace and security and its potential role in sharpening the focus on other major issues, including economic and social issues.

The United Nations declaration is the perfect definition of what TV as a format can create in our modern societies: a place opened to democracy and circulation of ideas, a haven for freedom of speech and cultural diversity, as the main European professional associations correctly point out. Quality content creation and broadcasting are the perfect vehicle to expand our progress and democratic values and fortify the bonds that keep us together.
