By Eliminating Time-Consuming Transcoding Steps And Ingesting Original Format Master Copies, Aframe's Secure Cloud Video Production Platform Streamlines The Breaking Sports Workflow

BOSTON AND LONDON March 17, 2014 - Aframe announced the success of its cloud video production and asset management platform at the FOX Sports 1 broadcast channel. FOX Sports 1's Assignment Desk relies on Aframe technology for automated ingest and delivery of content from its global network partners and freelance sports journalists, called stringers for news media submission workflow.

Launched in the fall of 2013, FOX Sports 1 features a variety of sports including: NFL programming, college basketball, college football, NASCAR, soccer, UFC and starting in 2014, Major League Baseball. FOX Sports 1 leverages Aframe's ability to accept secure footage of various sporting personalities and events, from a wide range of professional equipment from around the world, and then to convert this content into the DVCPRO format for editing or playout to air. Aframe also creates a traditional H.264 proxy for their review and approval process which provides a more efficient contribution file delivery model.

The Aframe-backed workflow won a 2014 Visionary End User award for FOX Networks Group at the Storage Visions conference in January.

Aframe's private cloud solution provides an easy mechanism for making content easily accessible for people who need it immediately, in a self-service model, said Wendy Allen, vice president of media engineering at FOX Sports. It's a new paradigm shift that will save FOX time and money.

In addition, FOX Sports 1 has used Aframe's secure private cloud video production platform to:

Save bandwidth on proxy transcoding because Aframe transcodes FOX Sports 1's original content to the h.264 proxy at the time of ingest, instead of requiring Fox download all footage prior to transcoding.

Lessen on premise transcoding software reliance by using Aframe to handle the heavy lifting of transcode work, since Aframe can accept a wide range of professional video formats.

Maximize storage utilization since FOX Sports 1 doesn't need to download all footage that is sent in by stringers, it requires less onsite storage capacity, mitigating capital costs.

Broadcast workflows today still contain steps where manual intervention, such as transcoding, is essential and in competitive TV formats like sport, that simply can't exist any longer, said David Peto, CEO of Aframe. About FOX Sports 1 FOX Sports 1 is a new national 24-hour multi-sport channel that boasts nearly 5,000 hours of live event, news and original programming annually. The channel has seven pillar sports: college basketball and football, MLB (in 2014), NASCAR, NFL (ancillary programs), soccer and UFC. College football is highlighted by regular season coverage of Big 12, Pac-12 and Conference USA games, while the college basketball spotlight shines on the Big East, Big 12, Pac-12 and Conference USA and the Big East men's basketball tournament. Starting in 2014, select MLB League Championship Series and Division Series games as well as regular season games are coming to the channel.

Additionally, FOX Sports 1 carries NASCAR RACEDAY, NASCAR VICTORY LANE and RACE HUB shows.

The channel also carries the world's most prolific club soccer competitions, like UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and CONCACAF Champions League, along with the world's oldest soccer competition, the FA Cup; plus CONCACAF Gold Cup; CONCACAF Qualifiers, EURO 2016 Qualifiers; 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers; FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015 and 2019; FIFA Men's World Cup in 2018 and 2022.

In addition to Saturday pay-per-view preliminary cards, Wednesday nights are home to the UFC with UFC TONIGHT, live events and THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER. In Feb. 2014, FOX Sports 1 premieres FOX SPORTS 1 JOCKEY CLUB CHAMPIONS SERIES, a newly created package of nationally televised races featuring the leading horses in the country.
