La Asociaci n Nacional de Broadcasters (NAB) otorgar al periodista Jorge Ramos su premio al Servicio Distinguido durante NAB 2014, en Las Vegas. Ramos, conocido por su trabajo en Univisi n y ahora Fusion, recoger el galard n el 7 de abril, durante la sesi n de apertura, patrocinada por Blackmagic Design.
El presidente de la NAB, Gordon Smith, ha destacado que durante casi 30 a os, Jorge Ramos es uno de los periodistas l deres de la televisi n estadounidense, convirti ndose en una de las figuras m s reconocidas y respetadas en la televisi n hispana. En honor a sus contribuciones a la radiodifusi n, estamos encantados de otorgarle este reconocimiento .
En ediciones anteriores el premio al Servicio Distinguido en NAB ha sido recogido por Bob Schieffer, Michael J. Fox, Mary Tyler Moore, Ronald Reagan, Edward R. Murrow, Bob Hope, Walter Cronkite, Oprah Winfrey y Charles Osgood, entre otros.
Ramos est considerado uno de los 25 hispanos m s influyentes de Estados Unidos (revista Time). Newsweek lo incluy en su lista de 50 pol ticos y comunicadores del pa s. Una encuesta del Pew Hispanic Center determin que Ramos es el segundo l der latino m s reconocido de norteam rica. La revista Latino Leaders dice que es uno de los 10 Latinos m s admirados en Estados Unidos y de los 101 l deres de la comunidad hispana.
Desde el 3 de noviembre de 1986, conduce el Noticiero Univision en los Estados Unidos, el de mayor impacto en la comunidad hispana de Estados Unidos y desde 2007, el programa semanal, Al Punto, donde entrevista a los personajes pol ticos del momento y analiza las noticias de la semana.
Ramos ha cubierto cinco guerras (El Salvador, el Golfo P rsico, Kosovo, Afganist n e Irak), numerosos eventos hist ricos -los actos terroristas del 11 de septiembre del 2001, la ca da del muro de Berl n, el fin del apartheid en Sud frica, la desintegraci n de la Uni n Sovi tica, cumbres iberoamericanas, movimientos guerrilleros en Chiapas y centroam rica, elecciones en casi todo el continente - y desastres naturales, incluyendo la cat strofe causada por hurac n Katrina. Ramos ha participado en varios debates presidenciales.
Ha entrevistado a algunas de las figuras pol ticas y culturales mas importantes de nuestros tiempos (Barack Obama, Bill y Hillary Clinton, John McCain, George W. Bush, George Bush, John Kerry, John Edwards, Al Gore, Fidel Castro, Hugo Ch vez, Calder n, Fox, Zedillo, Salinas de Gortari, subcomandante Marcos, Pastrana, Samper, Correa, Menem, Gaviria, Octavio Paz, Isabel Allende, Carlos Fuentes, Mario Vargas Llosa, Alejandro Toledo, Alan Garc a, Lucio Gutierrez, Hip lito Mej a ).
El periodista, que tiene once libros en su haber, estudi la carrera de Comunicaci n en la Universidad Iberoamericana (1977- 1981). Ya en los Estados Unidos, estudi un curso especializado en televisi n y periodismo de la Universidad de California en los Angeles (UCLA) y m s tarde, obtuvo una maestr a en relaciones internacionales de la Universidad de Miami. La Universidad de Richmond le otorg en el 2007 un doctorado Honoris Causa en Literatura.
Profesionalmente, su vida ha dado muchas vueltas. Se inici en el periodismo casi por casualidad. Form parte de un reducido grupo de estudiantes que recibi un curso de periodismo en las estaciones de radio de M xico XEW y XEX. Poco despu s fue productor y escritor del Noticiario de Am rica Latina, que enlazaba a las principales estaciones de radio del continente.
Di el paso a la televisi n para trabajar como redactor en el noticiero Antena Cinco y luego como investigador y reportero en el programa 60 Minutos, ambos de la cadena Televisa. Sin embargo, su estancia en la televisi n mexicana fue corta. Tras un incidente de censura decidi irse a vivir a Estados Unidos y lleg a la ciudad de Los Angeles como estudiante en enero de 1983. Ah comenz su aventura norteamericana.
Naci en la ciudad de M xico el 16 de marzo de 1958. Desde 1991 vive en Miami. Es el mayor de una familia de cinco hermanos. Tiene dos hijos.
