Leader Instruments, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leader Electronics Corporation, Yokohama, Japan, will introduce its LV 5480 SD/HD/3G SDI 4K-upgradeable multi-format waveform monitor to broadcasters attending the 2016 NAB Show in Las Vegas.
Front and rear of Leader LV 5480 with HDR and 12G-SDI connectivity options.
Based on the established and highly successful LV 5490, the LV 5480 provides the features cameramen, post-production houses and broadcast engineers need in todays HD world.
The LV 5480 multi-format waveform monitor is designed for use in a very wide selection of test and measurement roles. Its standard feature set includes waveform, vector and picture monitoring, an ancillary data viewer, data dump and four-channel timing display. An SDI status display looks for cyclic-redundancy-check, TRS, ancillary data and embedded-audio errors.
Leaders CINELITE II toolset (comprising CINELITE and CINEZONE) also comes as a standard feature, allowing easy assessment of relative exposure and overall luminance during production. A Focus Assist option allows highly accurate on-set adjustment of camera focus to match the 4K formats ability to handle very precise image detail.
Waveform, vector and picture display can all be viewed at the same time on the LV 5480s 9 inch monitor display. This is a full 1920 x 1080 high-definition LED-backlit XGA screen with in-plane switching. If the 9 inch display is not large enough for the operator, the LV 5480 also comes with a 1920 x 1080 HD DVI and HD-SDI rasterized output for display on a larger monitor.
Simultaneous viewing of up to four SDI inputs is possible, including overlays. The size and location of individual channels can be adjusted on the display using a USB mouse so the user is not limited to fixed-size quadrants. The LV 5480 can also be controlled remotely using standard KVM tools. Additional features of the LV 5480 include video frame capture, instrumentation screen capture, timecode display and ID display.
The LV 5480 can be upgraded at any time to a full featured 4K monitor with compliance for digital cinema or broadcast UHD based on 3G dual link, 3G quad link and HD quad link.
In addition to the LV 5480s video test and measurement capabilities, a versatile selection of audio monitoring and analysis tools are available with the Digital Audio option. These include 4 x 4 channels of SDI audio de-embedding, Lissajous display, surround-sound display and volumetric display. Up to 16 channels of de-embedded SDI audio can be viewed on screen and output as discrete AES3 feeds.
Available options include eye pattern with jitter measurements and Dolby decoding, plus a CIE 1931/1976 color space chart, which can display BT.709, DCI (P2) and BT.2020 (the 4K standards full ITU recommended color space). A 4K/HD pattern generator is also available as an option, producing 75 and 100 per cent color bars, luma ramp and crosshatch patterns along with 16 channels of embedded audio.
Also on demonstration at NAB will be three new options for both the LV 5490 and LV 5480:
* High Dynamic Range (HDR) measurement. This employs an HDR display using Leaders highly intuitive CINEZONE false colors to highlight areas of concern when operating with HDR content. The Leader HDR display supports SMPTE ST2084 (Dolby PQ curve) and ARIB STD B-67 (BBC/NHK Hybrid Log Gamma).
*12G-SDI connectivity. This is achieved via an interface card equipped with four SD-SDI inputs. The card supports 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI quad link, 3G-SDI dual-link and HD-SDI, each input handling a quarter of the 4096 x 2160 pixel 4K or 3840 x 2160 pixel UHD image. The card also incorporates a reclocked 12G-SDI output. 12G-SDI eye pattern with jitter measurements will also available as an option.
* Support for Sony's IP Live Video, and the Networked Media Interface technology. The LV 5490 and LV5480 will also have support for the Evertz ASPEN IP Protocol and TICO.
Fully portable, the LV 5480 has a footprint of just 8.77 inches wide by 14.7 inches deep and a height of 7.44 inches (223 x 360 x 189 mm). The instrument weighs only 10.4 pounds (4.72 kg). A rack mounting adapter is also available.
