EMMY will represent Ireland at The Eurovision Song Contest 2025

08/02/2025

Following a cosmic performance EMMY has been chosen to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, having emerged victorious on The Late Late Show Eurosong Special on RT One tonight, following a nail biting national final!

The artist, from Norway, will now travel to Basel in Switzerland in May, where Ireland will compete in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, bidding to qualify for the grand final on Saturday May 17th.

Speaking just after the show, EMMY said: I'm speechless thank you so, SO much! Wow we're so excited. I hope I will make you proud Ireland.

Presented by Patrick Kielty, all six hopefuls took to the Late Late Show Eurosong Special stage tonight, showcasing their entries to the nation before the voting lines were opened up to the public.

A panel of experts joined Patrick in the studio to give their analysis - last year's Irish Eurovision entry Bambie Thug who placed sixth in the contest in Malm Ireland's best result since 2000, RT 2FM and Ireland's Fittest Family presenter Laura Fox, Dancing with the Stars judge and choreographer Arthur Gourounlian and chef Donal Skehan who was a former Eurosong contestant in 2008.

During the show Eurovision royalty Linda Martin, Niamh Kavanagh and Eimear Quinn came together for the first time to perform on The Late Late Show Eurosong Special. This Eurovision Holy Trinity performed Loreen's Tattoo.

The other Eurosong acts competing tonight were:

Adgy performing Run into the Night

Bobbi Arlo performing Powerplay

Reylta performing Fire

Samantha Mumba performing My Way

NIYL performing Growth

The International Jury consisted of experts in the field of Eurovision from throughout Europe:

Milica Fajgelj Serbian Music Promoter and Manager- Jury spokesperson

Alessandro Capicchioni Television executive and Head of the San Marino delegation at Eurovision since 2008

Emily Griggs Head of Entertainment at SBS in Australia and Head of the Australian delegation at Eurovision

Benke Rydman Creative Director and Choreographer for Eurovision winners Nemo and Mans Zemerlow

The National Jury consisted of:

Blathn id Treacy 2FM presenter and spokesperson for the jury

Caroline Henry Music industry veteran

Jimmy Rainsford Drummer with the incredibly successful band Picture This

Kathryn McKiernan TV and radio presenter, actor, musician and singer

Spokesperson for the International Jury, Milica Fajgelj, revealed that they had awarded the following points:

12 points to Samanatha Mumba My Way

10 points to EMMY Laika Party

8 points to Reylta Fire

6 points to Bobbi Arlo Powerplay

4 points to Niyl Growth

2 points to Adgy Run into the Night

Chair and spokesperson for the National Jury, Bl thnaid Treacy, revealed that they had allocated:

10 points to Samantha Mumba My Way

8 points to Reylta Fire

6 points to Bobbi Arlo Powerplay

4 points to Niyl Growth

Given that Samantha Mumba and EMMY were tied at 22 points each it was all to play for when it came to the public vote, with RT Today and Dancing with the Stars reporter James Patrice announcing that the Irish public had awarded the following points:

12 points to EMMY Laika Party Total score: 34

10 points to Niyl Growth Total score: 18

8 points to Bobbi Arlo Powerplay Total score: 20

Last autumn, RT issued a callout on The Late Late Show for artists and songwriters with the talent and ambition to compete and succeed in this highly competitive environment.

The 69th Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will be held in Basel Switzerland after Nemo won last year with their song The Code. Two semi-finals will take place on Tuesday May 13th and Thursday 15th followed by the Grand Final on Saturday May 17th 2025.
