RT announces 1916 programme offering for International audiences

RT today announced details of its 1916 programme offering for international audiences, with a wide range of programming, including; documentaries, news coverage, debate and analysis in addition to an online exhibition and live streaming of the State's official 1916 centenary events. All of RT 1916 content with international rights will be made available for free for international audiences across RT 's digital services; RT Player, RT .ie, RT News Now app and RT 's radio apps, as part of RT 's programme to commemorate and celebrate the 1916 centenary.

RT 1916 is an ambitious programme of content and events across television, radio, mobile and online which invites people, at home and throughout the world, to watch, listen and take part as they commemorate and celebrate, debate and analyse the centenary of the 1916 Rising. Featuring major television drama, groundbreaking documentary, curated on-street events and a slate of young people's programmes, RT 1916 considers the event itself as well as the broader cultural, political and historical complexities of the Rising, and its impact on the decades and century that followed. Programmed in both languages, RT 1916 will reach out to Irish people of all ages, in Ireland and around the world.

On 14th March, RT Player (across Desktop, iOS and Android app) will launch a dedicated 1916 Hub, offering a curated collection of RT 1916 related television content. The range of programming available will include:

Documentaries; Inside the GPO, Seven Women, Joe Duffy s Children of the Revolution, Ireland s Rising and Life Before the Rising.

Live streaming of the main State Commemoration on Easter Sunday and other Easter Sunday commemorative events taking place in Glasnevin Cemetery and at Kilmainham Gaol

RT will present Centenary, a celebration of 100 years of Irish culture from the Bord G is Energy Theatre which will be broadcast live around the world on RT Player. Through live and pre-recorded performances from some of Ireland's most popular artists, Centenary will tell the story of the 1916 Rising and celebrate the country that we have become.

RT s 1916 television content cleared for international audiences will be available to watch worldwide for free through the RT Player service, available across Desktop, iOS and Android app. Currently audiences living abroad can enjoy the following 1916 documentaries available now on RT Player; Ireland's Rising, Life Before the Rising and Ar Son Na Poblachta.

RT Radio will continue to feature 1916-themed discussion and debate throughout its schedules and on your favourite shows, all of which are available on the radio player app and on RT .ie.

RT .ie and RT News Now will also deliver the latest news and analysis online for the Centenary of 1916 Easter Rising and RT .ie will live stream the main State Commemoration on Easter Sunday.

RT 's official 1916 website www.rte.ie/1916 features a new online exhibition They Were There, which currently presents 50 witness accounts of 1916 events on an interactive map. The previously unseen and unheard audio and visual collection features men and women who were members of the Irish Volunteers, the Citizen Army, Cumann na mBan, the British army, the Dublin Metropolitan Police and citizens of Dublin. Together they help build a vivid picture of what was happening across Dublin city and beyond during Easter 1916.

The website also features an international section http://1916.rte.ie/featured-reflecting/international-audiences/ which will continue to provide updates for international audiences on RT 's 1916 programme offering as it becomes available. International audiences can also keep up to date with news related to the 1916 Centenary across RT 's news platforms; RT .ie and the RT News Now app and through RT 's social media accounts, including; @RTE @RTEPlayerInt and using #rte1916.

Today also marks the first anniversary of RT Player International's launch on iOS. The free and paid for content service has enabled us to offer a wider content offering to international audiences with over 600 hours of free and paid-for Irish television content refreshed daily.
