Maynard Kraak releases new film Sonskyn Beperk --

Maynard Kraak has directed successful television shows such as Generations, This Life, Binneland, Scandal, Parys Parys, Loitering in Jozi, produced the box office hit Knysna, as well as directed and produced the romantic comedy Vrou Soek Boer. Kraak is now releasing his romantic- dramedy Sonskyn Beperk.
The film stars Anelle Bester and Neels Van Jaarsveld and centres itself on the current obsession the world has with craft beer. Sonskyn Beperk follows Anya Du Plessis who leaves her high-end job and boyfriend in New York City to come back to her estranged father, Marius, here in South Africa. After some financial troubles, Anya and Marius might have to sell their farm. Marius has become obsessed with brewing craft beer and through this, Anya and Marius meet Ruan. Ruan has been searching the country to find the best craft beer recipe to take to his large corporate brewing company. Naturally, falling in love is the last thing Anya planned on but she finds herself attracted to Ruan. However, once she realises Ruan has been trying to steal her father s recipe, things get complicated.
The film is a celebration of South Africa s diversity, in front of and behind the camera, Kraak says. What I have done is create the opportunity for young creatives that normally don t get the chance to showcase their talents in a senior creative decision making role, to demonstrate just how capable they are. From writer through production to editor, that responsibility they were entrusted with bore tremendous dividends in the end product of which I am especially proud, Kraak added.
