Chema Prado, Panorama prize to a lifetime The award recognizes his commitment with custody, recovery, research, and conservation of film heritage in front of the Spanish film library during the past three decades.

Chema Prado, director of the Spanish film library from 1989 until April 1, has been awarded the prize picture to a lifetime. PRADO will receive the award at the ceremony of the Awards picture 2016 to take place in the evening of May 24 in the South Auditorium of Feria de Madrid (IFEMA), coinciding with the opening of the professional Audiovisual technology Hall)BIT 2016).

The picture Awards, set up by the publication of reference for professionals in the sector, Audiovisual Panorama, recognize excellence of professionals, solutions, companies and productions. Unlike the thirteen categories that make up these awards, whose winners are chosen among the readers of the publication and a jury composed of eleven relevant professionals, by secret ballot before a notary, the award for a lifetime is directly granted by Panorama Audiovisual writing thus recognizing the contribution of men and women who have written history in television film, radio, and advertising.

On this occasion, this Panorama prize comes to recognize the commitment of Chema Prado with custody, recovery, research, and conservation of film heritage in front of the Spanish film library during the past three decades.

All a reference to the knowledge of the history of Spanish cinema, Jos Mar a Prado, was born in R bade (Lugo) in 1952. Diploma in interior architecture, he worked in this field for several years while he collaborated in several specialized magazines of film. In 1976 he started working in the Spanish film library as head of its programming, position he held until 1987. Two years later he assumed the direction of the film, who has played until March 31.

He is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of film archives (FIAF), and the film libraries of the European Community Association (ACCE), and is a reference to the knowledge of the history of Spanish cinema.

The Spanish film library, created in 1953 without own screening rooms, and headquarters has been under the direction of meadow a great evolution, becoming an example for the different national and international libraries that has driven a genuine cooperation in the conservation and recovery of the Spanish film heritage.

With the impulse of Prado, film library has also had a headquarters administrative, recovering the Palace de Perales, and has achieved that the cine Dor has become the permanent screening room.

Chema Prados career emphasizes its efforts for the construction of the Center for conservation and restoration (CCR) of the Spanish film library, located in the Ciudad de la Imagen, Pozuelo de Alarc n (Madrid), which has resulted in a giant step for the preservation of film heritage. This Centre has modern facilities dedicated to the conservation, restoration and recovery of the documentary resources of our cinematography, as well as serving container of the collections most important or significant in the filmed heritage of our country.

One of the latest projects of Chema Prado in front of film has been painstaking recovery, digitization and documentation of the no-do funds carried out by professionals of the documentary Fund of TVE in Prado del Rey. This project has allowed to put at the disposal of the public 4,011 newsreels and more than 700 hours of images that reflect the social, cultural and political life of the Franco regime and the transition.

A world leader

Antonio Castillo, director of Audiovisual Panorama, stressed that "Chema Prado is all a world leader in the recovery, restoration, preservation and cataloguing of film resources. Our industry, concerned daily about the production, sometimes forget the enormous work involved preserving so valuable legacy for future generations. With the Panorama prize all life would like to thank the nearly three decades that Prado has dedicated in the Spanish film library for this purpose.
