Cycle Against Suicide s Homecoming Party at 2fm HQ

10/05/2015: Today, Sunday 10th May 2015, sees RT 2fm welcome home around 1,000 cyclists who have completed a mammoth 1,400km journey around Ireland with Cycle Against Suicide.

The cycle, which started in Belfast on Monday 27th of April, has seen a cavalcade of cyclists, wearing their now instantly-recognisable orange cycling jerseys, make their way through 17 counties in Ireland and Northern Ireland to raise awareness of suicide prevention and spread the message: it's OK not to feel OK, and it's absolutely OK to ask for help'.

After passing through counties Antrim, Derry/Londonderry, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Donegal, Leitrim, Longford, Roscommon, Offaly, Tipperary, Limerick, Kerry, Cork, Laois and Meath, the cyclists will start the final leg of the journey in Mullingar in Co. Westmeath this Sunday at 10.30am and will arrive at 2fm headquarters in Dublin at approximately 5.30pm, where they will be greeted with a finale celebration.

Leading the procession will be Cycle Against Suicide founder Jim Breen.

Jim says: The last six weeks have proven to be an incredible journey for all at Cycle Against Suicide, including myself. We have experienced magical moments that will live with us long after the event, but also moments of sadness as the island of Ireland opens up to a conversation on mental health. We have deepened connections with the towns, communities and organisations we engage with. The response from schools has been truly incredible. In every corner of Ireland, North and South, people opened their arms to our cyclists and our run team, and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

Joining Jim and the other 1,000 cyclists on the final leg will be former Cork hurler and suicide awareness campaigner Conor Cusack, model Jayne Higgins and 2fm's Colm Hayes, who has been championing Cycle Against Suicide on 2fm since it's conception in 2013.

Head of RT 2fm, Dan Healy, says: Cycle Against Suicide do a phenomenal job in promoting positive communication around suicide prevention and encouraging people who need it to ask for help. 2fm is in a privileged position, as youth-orientated station on a national level, to communicate their message it's OK not to feel OK, and it's absolutely OK to ask for help' - and that's why it is so important to us, right across the station, that we rally behind this cause.

Cycle Against Suicide was founded by Irish entrepreneur Jim Breen as a result of an appearance on the RT One documentary, The Secret Millionaire. The programme inspired Jim to continue to use his skills and influences to help raise awareness of mental health in Ireland and signpost people in need to the considerable supports available for suicide prevention.

Cycle Against Suicide believes in a community-driven approach in all their activities. They work towards cohesion between, and awareness of, the various organisations working to prevent suicide and provide bereavement support in Ireland.
