Magnolia Cup winner Khadijah Mellah's story to be shown in special documentary on ITV
Following teenager Khadijah Mellah's incredible Magnolia Cup win at Goodwood today, ITV have announced a special documentary film telling her story will debut on the channel in autumn.
Riding A Dream will show how the 18 year old student from Peckham in South London went from never having even sat on a race horse until April this year to riding the winner in the high profile Magnolia Cup at the Qatar Goodwood Festival - her first ever race - barely four months later against well-known figures including Olympian Victoria Pendleton and model Vogue Williams.
Independently produced by ITV Racing presenter Oli Bell, the film has followed Khadijah, now the first female British Muslim jockey to win a UK race, for several months taking in the impact horse racing has on her and bringing into focus the Ebony Horse Club in Brixton, where Khadijah began riding, which Oli became a patron of last year.
Oli Bell said: Khadijah's deserved success highlights the wonderful work done by the Ebony Horse Club. After becoming involved with Ebony, raising its profile has been the aim and Khadijah's win will hopefully bring a lot of attention to the positive influence this charity, and racing as a sport, can have on young lives. It's been a privilege to follow Khadijah's progress and as people will see in our film, this is a special story about a special young woman who, from the outset, has been keen, determined and ambitious and today we've had the perfect outcome.
The documentary, Riding a Dream is directed by Mattia Reiniger and Tom Bolwell and is produced by brothers Oli and Philip Bell. It is funded by Great British Racing, Goodwood Racecourse and The Racing Foundation, all of whom are official partners of the film.
