Hace poco me tom una cerveza en el Llandoger Trow de Bristol. Cuenta la leyenda que el pub fue la fuente de inspiraci n de Robert Louis Stevenson para crear al almirante Benbow de La isla del tesoro. Ahora tambi n sirve de inspiraci n para contar c mo la pirater a afecta a la industria actual de los medios de comunicaci n y el entretenimiento. Seg n los ltimos informes, varios estudios indican que la pirater a ha alcanzado proporciones epid micas, y el peri dico brit nico The Guardian informa de que Se supon a que el streaming acabar a con la pirater a. Ahora es m s f cil que nunca. Es hora de contar la historia de otra manera y de ofrecer nuevas perspectivas sobre c mo podemos luchar de manera conjunta contra una de las mayores amenazas con las que nuestra industria se enfrenta hoy en d a.

El punto de vista de los expertos

Y si lo escuch ramos directamente de la fuente? Qu pasar a si entrevist ramos a un pirata y lo escuch ramos de su boca y obtuvi ramos informaci n privilegiada de alguien que se ha sentado a piratear contenidos a prop sito para obtener una recompensa econ mica? Los piratas no suelen anunciar sus servicios de asesoramiento en los clasificados locales, as que acceder a uno de ellos no fue tarea f cil. Pero la entrevista resultante nos permiti comprender por qu los piratas hacen lo que hacen, y no es solo por dinero.

Tambi n exploraremos las posibles implicaciones para la industria y c mo NAGRA contribuye a fortalecer la lucha contra la pirater a en la industria de los medios de comunicaci n y el entretenimiento.

Comprender las motivaciones humanas de un pirata

La primera pregunta a la que quer amos dar respuesta era por qu ? Era por dinero, por el prestigio resultante o sencillamente por un reto intelectual que tra a consigo una recompensa econ mica considerable?

El sujeto fue un pirata televisivo activo durante 17 a os. Comenz siendo un adolescente aburrido que se topaba con el crecimiento de Internet; la explosi n de la tecnolog a y la lista de posibilidades que esto presentaba para una persona con mentalidad t cnica dieron lugar a un rico terreno de juego. Un terreno de juego que, en aquel momento, apenas contaba con regulaci n o consecuencias.

Hicieron falta los titulares de Napster para que el pirata se diera cuenta de que las acciones que l y sus colaboradores llevaban a cabo acarrear an consecuencias. Consider que los proveedores de televisi n paga estaban diseminando su se al en mi patio y no pueden decirme qu puedo y qu no puedo hacer con ella . Interceptar los contenidos y redistribuirlos con fines il citos se convirti en un reto t cnico. En su calidad de asesor y no como alguien dedicado a la venta y distribuci n de contenidos piratas, el pirata dej de lado la escuela, el trabajo, la familia y los amigos, y la pirater a se convirti en su nico objetivo. Pero con el xito lleg la trampa. A medida que se buscaban servicios, se obten an beneficios econ micos y, a pesar de que otros colaboradores hab an sido atrapados, la oportunidad de uno m s se convirti en una droga de la que segu a pidiendo m s. Las peticiones de m s conocimientos tecnol gicos, empresariales y de marketing para ayudar a establecer nuevos servicios piratas se convirtieron en un c rculo vicioso del que le resultaba imposible salir.

Eras de la pirater a

El pirata habla de eras de la pirater a: la era de las tarjetas inteligentes y la de la IPTV, por citar dos. Las eras terminan con nuevos avances tecnol gicos que los piratas, como l, necesitan sortear para continuar con su actividad il cita. Entre ellos, las nuevas t cticas antipirater a de los legisladores y las acciones de retirada de contenidos emprendidas por alianzas entre propietarios de contenidos, distribuidores y vendedores como NAGRA. Estas medidas no solo han disuadido las actividades ilegales, sino que tambi n han provocado el cierre de un n mero cada vez mayor de servicios piratas.

En comparaci n con la era de las tarjetas inteligentes, la de la IPTV es un avispero. Se trata de una era que no deja de evolucionar gracias a los avances tecnol gicos, tanto en el lado de los piratas como en el de la industria. Pero, es una piedra rodante fuera de control o puede la industria conformar una defensa colectiva que le permita detenerla?

El pirata, ahora reformado y ayudando a la industria a contraatacar, est convencido de que se puede implementar una defensa. Cree que hay que empezar por educar a los estudiantes de colegio; al fin y al cabo, fue all donde l descubri por primera vez que podr a utilizar sus conocimientos t cnicos para obtener beneficios ilegales. Puede que en las clases de hoy se hable del robo de la propiedad intelectual y de por qu est mal robar en Internet, pero es demasiado poco y demasiado tarde? El avispero que es la pirater a en l nea sigue evolucionando y, como suger a el art culo de The Guardian que mencionaba al principio de este art culo, con el avance del streaming y la tecnolog a disponible asociada, la pirater a deber a estar disminuyendo en lugar de avanzar.

La perspectiva de la industria
