Suggestions given for Ningbo cultural creative port construction

"There are a lot of historic and cultural relics along the Yongjiang River. The city should be well planned and the urban kitchen should be converted as urban parlor." said Zhang Guanghan, Senior Engineer of Urban Planning and Cultural City Planning Institute of China Urban Planning and Design Academy and Deputy-director of Historic and Cultural Town Committee of China Urban Planning Association at the Urban Heritage and Cultural Innovation Forum on December 4.

The planned cultural creative port is located on the north bank of the Yongjiang River. With a planned area of about six square kilometers, the port covers the area to the east of Qingfeng Bridge, to the west of Mingzhou Bridge, to the north of Yongjiang River and to the south of North Daqing Road and Fenghua Road. Meanwhile, the 20-kilometer long area along the Yongjiang River, including the Old Bund, Hefeng Creative Square, the northern section of the College Scientific and Educational Park, the New Materials Technology City and the National High-tech Zone, will serve as the extension area of the port. At the forum, experts from different areas of China shared the domestic and international experiences in protecting urban cultural heritages and provided suggestions for Ningbos construction of the cultural creative port.

According to Mr. Zhang, there are abundant historic and cultural relics along the Yongjiang River, especially some industrial relics of the early contemporary and modern time. However, with the urban development, industries have been transferred to other areas, while the former railways, fishery quays and cold-storage warehouses are faced with functional conversion. If the city is a house, the area is just like the kitchen area, where people store their ware. However, to build the cultural creative port, this area should become more active and serve as the "living room", which is a public activity space,

Great suggestions have been given by the experts at the forum for the construction of the cultural creative port. Mr. Zhang Guanghan said, the first thing is planning. The port should be connected with the Old Bund area and be built into an ecological area. Secondly, some public buildings for leisure and entertainment should be introduced to provide convenience for people. Thirdly, public activities should be held to improve the value of the public space. Professor Wang Lin from Shanghai Jiaotong University suggests to integrate the comprehensive cultural an art industries with peoples life by digging deep into the unique resources of the Yongjiang River, developing food culture based on the fishery quays and introducing small and micro art design enterprises to the port.
