The Late Late Toy Show set & theme revealed

The biggest night on Irish television is here again with 320 children set to join Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Toy Show tonight.

Each one is a VIP. A jungle VIP' to be exact because the theme of this year's Late Late Toy Show takes inspiration from one of the most beloved Disney musicals of all time The Jungle Book. Ryan and a cast of 72 young performers will be hoping to jungle boogie their way into the nation's heart with an opening number drawn from the movie.

Late Late Toy Show host Ryan Tubridy said: I am tremendously excited that we are doing The Jungle Book this year. It's a great classic, a real family favourite and something which I think everyone can enjoy whether they're young or old, boy or girl. I may not be the king of the singers but I hope that for a couple of hours tonight people will get a chance to settle down with the family and forget all about their worries and their strife .

The Late Late Toy Show airs tonight Friday, December 2nd at 9.35pm on RT One.

This year's Late Late Toy Show gathers together the biggest cast ever to take part. Between performers and toy demonstrators, more than 320 children from all over Ireland will participate in this year's spectacular. The youngest is just four years old. The opening performance will feature 72 performers plus Ryan and is so big that it will take The Late Late Toy Show outside the studio to include other parts of the RT campus.

Viewers can also expect a few surprises on the night.

The RT costume and make-up departments have been working flat out over the past month to get ready for Friday's show.

Head of RT 's costume department Brigette Horan said: It has been a pleasure to work on this year's Late Late Toy Show. The Jungle Book theme has really inspired us and led to some of our most creative costume designs ever. It has been really fun to work on, particularly Ryan's costume, which is a sight to behold!

The set has been designed by Marcella Power and Catherine Sorg and has been months in the planning. Students from IADT Dun Laoghaire have been working on a top secret project since summer to help create some of the jungle creatures that will feature in the opening performance. Waterford's Spraoi has also supplied parts of the set. The jungle fruits of everyone's labour will be exclusively revealed in full on Friday night's show.

As always, a number of charities have been invited to nominate children to experience the wonders of The Late Late Toy Show set in advance of tonight's show. This year children from: LauraLynn Children's Hospice; Heart Children Ireland; Our Lady's Children Hospital, Crumlin; Barretstown and Jack and Jill Children's Foundation will get to enjoy a sneak preview of the set and play with the toys. Their visit to the set will be captured on camera and broadcast during the show.

All the toys featured on the show will be donated to charity following the broadcast.

In addition, this year the countdown to The Late Late Toy Show kicks off live on Facebook. TV presenter Baz Ashmawy will bring viewers an exclusive look at what's going on behind the scenes as Ryan and company get ready to go live to the nation. The Late Late Toy Show: The Final Countdown will start at 8pm sharp on RT One's Facebook page.
