Marquis Medway Enables Greater Focus on Creativity for Mad Old Nut Productions

Marquis Broadcast, experts in content workflows and media integration software, has today announced the LA & Beverly Hills post production and Avid rental facility, Mad Old Nut Productions, has purchased Medway. Marquis' interoperability engine is now being used to streamline the delivery of project files for two zombiepocalypse series: Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead.

At Marquis our goal is to help facilities improve the efficiency and ease of digital workflows, confirms Chris Steele, managing director, Marquis Broadcast. Medway achieves this through cost-effective integration between leading broadcast content applications, ensuring products such as Edit Platforms, either standalone or using Shared storage and third-party MAMs and automation systems can work seamlessly together.

We like to utilise the latest technologies while still maintaining significantly lower price points for our clients and so when we were recommended to Marquis by a customer's team that uses Medway, we had to take a look. We selected and installed the solution three months ago in order to streamline the delivery of project files.

Previously, it was necessary to create a ProRes with captions embedded which had to be sent to the client who then needed to convert to MXF OP1A with captions for their MAM system, explains Ulman. The Medway functionality which enables an Avid sequence to move to MXF OP1A with embedded captions and 12 tracks of audio now means the client no longer needs to convert the files and this saves both sides time and money.

We used to have glitches with the ProRes files where occasionally they would not import into the MAM system, confirms Ulman. However, now with OP1A no conversion is necessary and there are no issues. Using a solution like Marquis' Medway allows us to create an environment that enables us and our clients to avoid unexpected challenges and technicalities and focus more on the outcome of a project and the process of creativity.
