Qvest Media equips ARD and ZDF for Rio

Public broadcasters ARD and ZDF are partnering with Qvest Media to broadcast the European Football Championships in France and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The systems architect will supply a networked HD production and broadcasting infrastructure.

ARD and ZDF will be taking turns reporting live from the 306 competitions featuring around 10,500 athletes from 205 countries. The live reports will be produced in the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Rio Barra. Qvest Media is providing production, transfer and storage systems, after the equipment will has been utilised at the Euro 2016 football championship in France.

The setup consists of technology from EVS and Avid; the central data ingest, highlight editing and playout are performed on an EVS installation comprising 14 EVS IP Directors, eight XT Access systems and 21 EVS XT3 production servers with Multicam 14 software.

ARD and ZDF use a networked Avid infrastructure with 28 connected craft editing stations and an Avid central storage solution with a capacity of 576TB for their editorial reporting and post production. File ingest into the Avid environment is done either via XT Access from the EVS network or MOG F1000 multi-format systems.

Qvest Media is also providing AV equipment for video production, monitoring and controlling. This includes components for the Riedel Artist Digital Matrix Intercom platform for internal communication in the IBC. The distribution of video signals is achieved by multiviewer systems from Evertz and monitoring with instruments from Tektronix. Sony and Panasonic VTRs and recorders complete the production equipment, along with several format converters from the Alchemist and Kudos ranges by Snell Advanced Media.
