Cloud-based TV service Playstation Vue has been launched across the US market.
Owner Sony is expected to look into the possibility of a European or even global launch in the coming months.
In a company statement, Eric Lempel, senior vice president of marketing and head of PlayStation Network, said, We're expanding the service to the rest of the US to give our fans a better way to watch popular live and on-demand TV from top networks like AMC, ESPN, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and more, using PlayStation Vue's unique streaming features.
Three packages are available from Playstation Vue, which start with the Access Slim at $29.99 per month. This includes over 55 live cable TV, movies and sports channels. For an extra $5 per month, the Core Slim option takes the channel total to more than 70, with the addition of national and regional sports networks.
Finally, the Elite Slim, priced at $44.99 per month, adds further top movie and entertainment channels, taking the total to over 100.
Sony is also looking to add local broadcast stations to offer local programming in its channel line-ups.
Features, which Sony claim to be unique to the Playstation Vue service, include cloud DVR, which allows users to record hundreds of shows at once and store thousands of hours of content.
It also provides simultaneous streaming, allowing a single subscriber to stream content across multiple devices at the same time.
According to Lempel, the Playstation Vue interface seamlessly blends live and on-demand content to put top programming front and centre, with innovative search and discovery tools.
Users can access the service through PS4 and PS3 consoles, Amazon Fire TV, and Fire TV Stick, as well as iPad and iPhone through the PlayStation Vue mobile app. Google Chromecast is also supported via compatible iOS devices.
