BACKSEVILLE INTERNATIONAL TO HANDLE OSCAR WINNER DENYS ARCANDS THE FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRESeville International secures international rights to the legendary filmmaker's new project currently in post-production

Montr al May 1, 2018 - Seville International is pleased to announce it has secured international rights to Academy Award winner Denys Arcand's new film THE FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE, the follow up to his 1986 critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated THE DECLINE OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE. The film, which is currently in post-production, was written and directed by Arcand and produced by Academy Award winner Denise Robert. In 2004, THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS, written and directed by Denys Arcand and produced by Denise Robert, won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in addition to being nominated in the Best Original Screenplay category. Arcand and Robert have since collaborated on multiple award winning and critically acclaimed films.

THE FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE takes a witty yet touching look at the predominance of money in a society where all other values seem to have crumbled. The protagonist, Pierre-Paul Daoust, 36, an intellectual with a PhD in philosophy is forced to work as a deliveryman to afford a decent living. One day, while delivering a parcel, he gets caught in a hold up gone terribly wrong: two dead and millions in money bags laying on the ground. Pierre-Paul is confronted with a dilemma: leave empty handed, or take the money and run?

Alexandre Landry (Gabrielle) stars as Pierre-Paul Daoust with newcomer Maripier Morin, Louis Morissette (The Mirage), Maxim Roy (Look Again), Pierre Curzi (The Barbarian Invasions), Vincent Leclerc (The Revenant), Patrick mmanuel Abellard, Florence Longpr (Threesome) and Eddy King rounding out the cast. R my Girard, a well-known actor who has previously collaborated with the director, completes the ensemble. This film marks his reunion with Arcand; the two worked together on THE DECLINE OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE (1986) in which Girard portrayed leading role as well as on Arcand's Oscar-winning film The Barbarian Invasions.

The deal was negotiated by Poirier for Seville International and Denise Robert on behalf of Cin maginaire.

Les Films Seville will release the film in Quebec on June 28, 2018.
