Ericsson and PTC speed up app and service development for cellular IoT

With the addition of ThingWorx to the Ericsson IoT Accelerator cloud-based platform, the wider IoT market will now have access to the best-in-class applications & AR experience development tools offered by PTC. The new offerings will help businesses accelerate the creation and launch of IoT applications and services.

Ericsson will be showcasing a smart manufacturing demo powered by Ericsson IoT Accelerator, including ThingWorx, at IoT World in Santa Clara, California May 15-17, 2018.

This combination is good for ecosystem partners as well as customers, bringing together the strong brand and presence of Ericsson and its related solutions in the telco market, with PTC's strengths and solutions in industrial verticals, said Tiago Goncalves, CEO of Innowave. Ericsson and PTC are teaming up for cellular IoT adoption

PTC is a global software company with over 30 years of experience understanding things in their digital form. Today, PTC delivers a technology platform and solutions to help companies design, manufacture, operate, and service things for a smart, connected world.

Hundreds of customers, and over 250 partners have selected PTC's ThingWorx as their industrial innovation platform. System integrators have built IoT competency centers around the ThingWorx technology, and 300K developers use ThingWorx to develop their own solutions.

ThingWorx Foundation is a modeling environment for development of IoT applications. ThingWorx Studio is a powerful, easy-to-use tool that enables industrial enterprises to rapidly create scalable augmented reality (AR) experiences. These two tools are now integrated into the Ericsson IoT Accelerator Platform.

The Ericsson-PTC collaboration is very complementary given Ericsson's strengths in handling connectivity at scale and PTC's ThingWorx's rapid application enablement platform, shared Kari Terho, Head of Smart Factory Management at Elisa Industrial IoT, a telecommunications, ICT and digital service company based in Finland.

The addition of ThingWorx to the platform fortifies an end-to-end offer that addresses the full spectrum of customers technical and launch needs, from rapid app development through monetization and security services.
