Huisgenoot flick rakes in millions at the box office

Merely 10 days after opening at cinemas nationwide, Huisgenoot's centenary film, Vir Die Vo ls, has hit the R3m mark with more than 56 000 people watching the film. The movie is currently number 4 in the Top 10 at the box office.

Huisgenoot editor, Henriette Loubser commented: We are so grateful to the actors who have played their roles so beautifully and to Quentin Krog, the director and Danie Bester, the producer, for how they portrayed this love story in a way that has truly touched people's hearts. The fact that the film's inspiration is based on the true story of Irma and Sampie, gives an authenticity to the characters that is so refreshing.

Vir Die Vo ls is based on the true story of Irma Humpel (played by Simone Nortmann), a tomboy who ended up in a wedding dress at the altar next to the boy who teased her during their childhood.

The film is set in the late 1970s and will make you feel nostalgic. It's a film about a strong, mature woman and an equally strong man who respects that woman enough to fight for her love. It's a story about inner conflict and preventing external circumstances and emotional baggage from getting in the way of future happiness.

For holiday-makers heading to the South Coast, there is some good news Vir Die Vo ls also opens this Friday, 9 December at the Ster-Kinekor Shelley Beach.
