SVG Europe caught up with Radiotelevisi n Espa ola (RTVE) executive producer of sport, Moira Garcia de Frutos, about the set up for the Spanish broadcaster's coverage of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025
Ahead of the final clash of this epic tournament between Spain and England on 27 July, SVG Europe caught up with Radiotelevisi n Espa ola (RTVE) executive producer of sport, Moira Garcia de Frutos, about the set up for the Spanish broadcaster's coverage of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025.

How many feeds are you taking from UEFA?
We are taking the World Feed via satellite - just two feeds, A and B. We are not getting any additional package, only the world feed and access to the UEFA Hive platform.
What do you think of what you're getting? Is it what you need, or would your director rather have more angles etc? If more, what would you like to have?
We are satisfied with the international feed, it's perfectly suited to the type of broadcast we're producing.
We would appreciate having access to more premium content through Hive, as we had for last year's Euro: musical features, cinematic highlights, behind-the-scenes stories and additional editorial content, which would really enrich our nightly highlights show and viewer engagement.
What are the challenges for RTVE in covering the Women's Euros?
There are several challenges. Editorially, one of our goals is to engage audiences not just with Spain's matches but with the entire tournament, which we do through daily highlights show with all teams and stories.
Technically, Switzerland is a small country, but we are producing daily matches with on site commentary and without OB vans, using IP-based technologies. For Spain's games, we have a more complex setup with several unilateral feeds from the stadium, all of which are coordinated through our MCR in Madrid, where the final production and playout take place.
For UEFA Women's Euro 2025, RTVE has chosen a hybrid production model to ensure editorial depth, technical efficiency, and maximum flexibility. We are operating across three production levels depending on match relevance and strategic priority
What is your workflow for this event?
For UEFA Women's Euro 2025, RTVE has chosen a hybrid production model to ensure editorial depth, technical efficiency, and maximum flexibility. We are operating across three production levels depending on match relevance and strategic priority.
Level 1: Spain Matches (Full unilateral coverage)
These are our most intensive productions, with a dedicated crew of 20 professionals on-site.
Uni facilities include:
Tribune Presentation Position
Pitchside Presentation Position
Commentary Position + Pitch Reporter
Flash Interview
ENG Camera Behind Goal
On-pitch Stand-up Position
Tunnel Live Interview Position
VIP
These feeds are transmitted via bonded IP technology, using dedicated lines to guarantee stable contribution, booked with Swisscom (official connectivity provider for the event).
All signals are sent to RTVE's central production MCR in Torrespa a in Madrid, where they are integrated into our broadcast output. The Madrid MCR also manages complex return workflows, delivering clean feeds, mix-minus (n-1) and audio stems back to all remote positions, one of the key coordination and latency challenges in this setup.
Level 2: Non-Spain Matches (Daily partial unilateral coverage)
For all other matches, we have a crew of seven people, maintaining editorial presence.
Unilateral positions include:
Pitchside Presentation booking Multi Feed
Commentary Position + Pitch Reporter
Flash Interviews (At the Multi)
ENG Camera Behind Goal
Feeds are again transmitted over dedicated IP lines from the stadiums to Madrid, with bidirectional communication and remote gallery integration.
Level 3: Off-tube Matches (Group Stage only)
A limited number of group-stage matches are produced entirely remotely with off-tube commentary teams operating from RTVE facilities in Madrid and Barcelona, using just the World Feed.
Centralised Production and Daily Programme
All these onsite feeds are integrated at our A4 studio in Torrespa a, where a core team of 30 professionals is dedicated to the event. This setup supports both the live match productions and our daily magazine show (broadcast from 23:00 to approx. 23:45).
The show features a dual-anchor format. Lourdes Garc a Campos hosts from the main studio in Madrid, delivering analytical and curated content. While Lara Gandarillas reports live each night from a secondary set located in our operational base in Bern, offering interviews, insights, and updates from the heart of the tournament.
Supplementary Coverage: Spanish National Team
To complement our matchday operations, we have deployed two ENG crews (six people total) embedded with the Spanish national team in Lausanne. This unit provides:
Daily live details
Exclusive interviews
Long-form features for news and sports programming
Contributions for both linear and digital platforms
This multi-layered production workflow allows RTVE to balance cost-efficiency with editorial ambition, ensuring Spain's journey through the tournament is covered with depth and flexibility, while also offering strong for all matches.

How is this workflow changing over the course of the competition - knockout stages through to the final - and how does this relate to Spain's progress?
Our strategic plan is to maintain this hybrid model all the way to the final, wh
