Fans have been waiting for months to see the Jazz icon, Gregory Porter live on stage.

And with sold out shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg, the anticipation has definitely been building.

JAZZY BEATS WITH GREGORY PORTER Over the next week thousands of Jazz enthusiasts are gearing up to see the two-time Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter live in action during his first solo concert tour.

Porter will perform six shows in total and Cape Townians will be the first to see the start in action during his An Intimate Evening with Gregory Porter' tour.

According to Cape Talk, fans can look forward to hearing songs like his his 2013 hit, Hey Laura.

Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to come to South Africa as often as I would like, so it's wonderful to know that there is this pent up energy that's been sustained over the years, Porter told the radio station.

In many ways, I feel a special affinity for South Africa, for many reasons, the Jazz icon added.

SOUTH AFRICAN FLAVOUR Local artists Msaki and The One Who Sings, real name Zolani Mahola, are the supporting acts for Porter's upcoming South African concerts.

The One Who Sings will be opening for the jazz musician at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden on 21 January at 7pm and Msaki will open at Montecasino's Teatro on 23, 24, 26, 27 and 28 January at 8pm.

Audiences are in for a special evening of unparalleled entertainment featuring The One Who Sings and Msaki ahead of world jazz icon, Gregory Porter, said promoter Tony Feldman of Showtime Management in part, as reports Daily Sun.

THE ONE WHO SINGS Both artists hail from the Easter Cape and have established themselves firmly within the South African music scene.

The One Who Sings is the former lead singer of the acclaimed Afro-Fusion group, Freshlyground. As part of the group she has performed as supporting act for Robbie Williams during his 2006 SA Tour. The group is also known for performing the official FIFA World Cup song, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa alongside Shakira in 2010.

The One Who Sings also sang with BB King and Stevie Wonder, Daily Sun reports.

She left Freshlyground in 2020, rebranded herself and released her first solo debut album, Thetha Mama.

MSAKI REIGNS SUPREME Fans first took note of Msaki when she released her debut EP, Nalithemba, in 2013

Her 2016 debut LP Zaneliza: How the Water Moves, was nominated at the South African Music Awards.

In 2021 she released her double album, Platinumb Heart, and in 2022 she won won Best Female Artist of the Year and Best Adult Contemporary Album of the Year. She's also featured as a songwriter on Black Coffee's Grammy Award-winning album, Subconsciously.

Internationally, Msaki is also making a name for herself collaborating with Ayra Starr, Jorja Smith and Diplo.
