40% More Technologists Seek to Addre IBC06 Technical Seions

Planners of IBC s Advances in Technology stream have been surprised and delighted by the offer of an unprecedented number of technical papers for this year s conference. The annual call for papers produced a bumper 40% more synopses than last year, meaning that IBC s committee of technical experts has been in the enviable position of choosing one out of every six offers for each available speaking opportunity.

The Advances in Technology stream is the home of IBC's peer-reviewed technical paper sessions, world-renowned for their cutting-edge content and topical strategic insight. The 2016 stream will present thirteen technical sessions which will include the introduction of six session themes, entirely new to IBC, which reflect the fast-moving pace of today's media industry. These new topics are: case studies in global UHDTV roll-out, world firsts in studio IP trials; advances in virtual reality and 360 television; the internet of things; technologies for targeted advertising and novel applications of metadata.

Highlights from the Advances in Technology stream this year will include a special session on media accessibility for sensory-impaired viewers and a look at advanced television production from the Vatican. This will include a presentation on Opening of the Holy Door by Pope Francis , the first 4k Ultra-HDTV production with high dynamic range, to be distributed around the globe by satellite.

This year, IBC s Advances in Technology poster presentations in the Future Zone, will be upgraded to large-screen interactive displays. IBC believes that this will greatly enhance the presentation of novel ideas and improve the communication between presenters and visitors. Demand for the opportunity to present on these screens has also been significantly over-subscribed.

The Advances in Technology stream is led by David Crawford and Nick Lodge who said: "We are both thrilled with the response we have had to this year s conference.
