Meet the newly appointed National Head of the AFDA School of Busine Innovation and Technology

AFDA, (The South African School of Motion Medium Picture and Live Performance) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Jonathan Marks as Head of the AFDA School of Business Innovation and Technology. The new school (B.I.T.S) has been designed to prepare smart, ambitious and creative graduates with the necessary skills to deal with the way which we do business today and in the future.

The AFDA B.Com in Business Innovation represents a marked departure from the traditional B.Com degrees in that it blends together a philosophical position regarding the origin of ideas, with a practical hands-on-minds-on' approach to integrating the knowledge associated with the world of business, innovation and entrepreneurship. The degree affords students the opportunity to engage from Day 1 in learning, activity and thinking that will lead to the creation of a highly valuable business. says Dr Marks

Dr Marks is currently Senior Lecturer at the University of Pretoria's Gordon Institute of Business Science, where he holds responsibility for the entrepreneurship domain. He has an MBA from the University of Cape Town's (UCT) Graduate School of Business, as well as a PhD, focused on entrepreneurship education, from UCT's Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. He was founding director of the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development (located at UCT), and is Academic-in-Residence at the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, having previously held the position of Head of Impact Assurance. Dr. Marks is Founder of RocketSchool, a dedicated entrepreneurship start-up business school.

The AFDA BSc programme is designed for highly technologically minded individuals who have the desire to dive into the practical and conceptual world of computer science and technology. The programme links with the AFDA B.Com degree by connecting the world of business innovation with that of technological development and creation. says Dr Marks.

Dr Marks is an experienced entrepreneur, having developed and successfully sold business ventures in the real estate and information technology sector. He continues to consult to entrepreneurs and corporate clients on aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship. Clients have included The World Bank Institute, Free University Amsterdam, Woolworths Financial Services, Sanlam, National Planning Commission, and the Western Cape Provincial Government, as well as a number of smaller and start-up ventures.
