Seems like Will Smith is far from being emancipated from his now-infamous Oscars slap. Veteran actor and comedian Eddie Murphy's Golden Globes acceptance speech referencing Smith's macho antics at last year's Oscars, has gone viral.

Murphy was honoured with the prestigious Cecil B DeMille Award at the 80th Golden Globe Awards which was held at the Beverly Hilton, in Los Angeles, on Tuesday evening 10 January.

Murphy then continued with some advice to aspiring actors about how to achieve success in the entertainment industry.

A-list celebrities were in hysterics after Murphy's joke, giving the star a standing ovation as he left the stage.

Murphy says he has nothing but love' for Will and Jada Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, starred opposite Murphy in the 1996 film The Nutty Professor.

The Norbit star Murphy spoke to Nischelle Turner and Kevin Frazier from Entertainment Tonight after the awards ceremony to discuss his lifetime achievement award and briefly touched on why he joked about the Oscars slap.

Murphy explained: Yeah, because in reality, I've worked with Jada. I love Will. I love Will, and I love Chris and it's all love.

The Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star added that he's incredibly grateful to receive the Cecil B DeMille Award.

It's a prestigious award. And like I said, when you receive stuff like this when you're older, you really appreciate it more. Now you do.

Oscars slap: Will Smith vs Chris Rock The 53-year-old Emancipation star made headlines at the Academy Awards in March last year when he stormed on to the stage and slapped host Chris Rock across the face after the comedian joked about Smith's wife and actress Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head. Pinkett Smith suffers from the medical hair-loss condition alopecia.

Emancipation' snub According to Radar Online, the Oscar-winning actor did not take the Golden Globes snub of his latest movie, Emancipation, too well. The very modest box office grossing has done nothing to lift the actor's mood. So far the slavery drama directed by Antoine Fuqua, which cost $120 million (about R2 billion) to make, has only earned an average of $3k (R51 000) per screening.

An insider told Radar Online: Will knows it's a long road to redemption and a lot of folks won't forgive him. But this really rams it home.
