SA involved in new international TV series Quarx --

With his latest project Quarx, Jasper James of London-based production house Screen Glue, puts a spin on science education by tackling physics and biology.
The series of short films are in the style of video blogs made by three teenage pranksters with super-powers, which they use to alter the laws of physics. Visual effects capture the chaos they cause as they create black holes, giant insects and even make everyone indestructible.
James comments: Quarx is so madly ambitious that it shouldnt have been possible to fund it. The scripts are so outlandish that it shouldnt have been possible to make it. But Quarx is all about bending the rules and thats what we did. We re doing it thanks to the backing of a unprecedented roster of partners, not just broadcasters but also the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the South African Department of Trade and Industry and the most pioneering scientific body of them all, CERN (the European Organisation for Nuclear Research).
And thanks big time to the true hand-in-glove partnership Screen Glue has with the production team at Fortfuflash in Johannesburg headed by Matsobane Lebelo. They ve delivered the impossible and very clearly proved one thing - South Africa has talent.
Fortuflash is a special purpose vehicle established for the production of Quarx. The company is headed up by a host of South African industry specialists with Matsobane Lebelo of Brave TV at the helm, and key creatives Rebecca Fuller-Campbell and Cremer Van Dango, supported by a crew of South African creative and television talent.
Fuller-Campbell, executive producer of the series in South Africa says, We are very excited to be a part of Quarx, which is a wonderfully weird project aimed at science edu-tainment. Proudly, the entire team has gone that extra mile to push the limits of what is possible and the results are amazing.
Quarx was originally conceived for a science broadcasting competition run by CERN and the EBU. The first series has already been presold to Curiosity Stream in the US, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, SRF (Switzerland), RTBF (Belgium), France Televisions, SVT Sweden and CT (Czech Republic), and is supported by the South African Department of Trade and Industry. The series is directed by Van Dango and James Tovell.
