Figures from the BBC, ITV and YouView have all been confirmed for the TVBEurope 2020 agenda. Richard Halton, CEO of YouView; Peter Brightwell, BBC R&D head of network incubator AMWA; and Tom Griffiths, director of broadcast and distribution technology, ITV will all take part in panel discussions during the event, which will form the centrepiece of TVBEurope's Strategy Week, commencing 27 June.
Who are the content stakeholders in an all IP world?' asks the morning keynote panel session, which Halton will contribute to. The discussion will broach issues such as how the traditional content ecosystem is changing to reflect the shift in consumer content consumption, whether creating original content is the future for the staying ahead of the competition, and what the future holds for content aggregation services.
Halton was appointed CEO of YouView in May 2020, having previously served as director of Project Canvas, before the company's rebrand. The YouView service allows viewers to access to free DTT channels ads well as to on-demand services, via a set-top box. Users of YouView do not pay a monthly subscription fee, and as the service is open, developers can create accompanying apps and a wide variety of providers can add their content.
The BBC's Brightwell will be giving a mini presentation and taking part in a panel discussion, alongside Jean-Baptiste Lorent of the TICO Alliance, and Andy Warman, chairman of the AIMS marketing working group. The speakers will discuss the value and challenges of setting standards for the industry's future, including IPTV technologies.
Brightwell has significant experience in the research and deployment of modern TV production technologies, including file-based acquisition, networked delivery and asset management, and creation of an award-winning graphics system. He is currently leading research activities at R&D's South Lab on the IP Studio project.
The conference will close with a panel session asking, Does new media technology deliver an acceptable ROI to broadcasters?' Exploring the topic alongside Griffiths will be Russell Grute, managing partner, Broadcast Innovation, and Joachim Bergman, head of playout and media management,
Ericsson Broadcast and Media Services. The session will focus on the potential return on investment from crucial new technologies such as: web services, cloud, UHD, IP and MAM.
At ITV Griffiths is accountable for the development and support of the broadcaster's technology platforms that support rights management, linear and non-linear content scheduling, broadcast and VoD content delivery as well as the technology development with ITV's linear broadcast service providers.
TVBEurope 2020 returns to BAFTA London for the second year, on Tuesday 28 June. The one-day strategy summit brings together broadcasters, content owners, service providers and manufacturers with the common goal of identifying the business-critical decisions that companies will have to make to remain relevant and profitable in a fully IP-enabled future.
