The eighth edition of the Wings for Life World Run will definitely take place in 2021 with registration open for the May 9 event on November 17 at the official website.

Here is all you need to know:

- Since 2014, the Wings for Life World Run community has been running together every year to help make spinal cord injury curable with a grand total of 700,000 participants from 195 nations registering for a total of seven million kilometres while raising almost 30 million euros through their entry fees and donations.

- With the first 10,000 registered participants for 2021 set to receive an official Wings for Life World Run shirt, CEO Wings for Life Foundation Anita Gerhardter revealed: The support we receive is just phenomenal. - It has been possible to participate with an app since 2015 with live tracking or measuring distances to the revolutionary Catcher Car, social media sharing functions and an audio experience designed to inform, entertain and motivate participants in real time.

Thanks to our app, were going to be completely independent of newest developments. Weve got a software that weve been continuously developing for five years now. So for us, a virtual run isnt new territory at all.

- There will also be an opportunity to participate in 12 Flagship Runs that will be spread around the world with a decision to be made in February 2021 at the latest.

- Runners and wheelchair users start at the same time at 11am UTC, so in Berlin the run starts at 1pm, in Tokyo it is 10pm and in New York it is 7am with the Catcher Car starting to move 30 minutes after the starting gun fires.

- The Catcher Car gradually picks up speed and catches one participant after another participant until the winner is left standing alone with the 2020 global winner Briton Michael Taylor able to run a total of 69.92 kilometres or four hours and 12 minutes before getting caught.

- It doesnt matter if you plan to run five kilometres, 10km, a half marathon, marathon or further: many runners and wheelchair users rise above themselves to new heights thanks to the special format with 100% of all entry fees devoted to spinal cord research.
