We have two kinds of releases on a regular basis, major and minor. Minor releases are usually made of of bug fixes and a client modification request or two. Major releases represent significant and innovative feature additions (as well as bug fixes and other odds and ends). Last night we had a minor release, and with that a new feature worth talking about. Those familiar with our Vid.ly feature, know that Vid.lys can be easily embedded just about anywhere. We recently added the option to create responsive embed codes via javascript, in addition to the existing fixed width iframe embed codes. In our most recent release, we added the ability to generate embed codes (fixed or responsive) programmatically via our API. Let's take a closer look at the API request.
The action parameter is what makes the request to generate the embed code. Supplying your user ID and API key confirms account identity and security of the API request. The MediaShortLink is the universal URL that was created when your Vid.ly was encoded. You can then choose between fixed or responsive embed codes, and whether or not to use SSL. For a fixed width iframe embed you can specify the dimensions of your embed using the size parameters. We recently covered using token based security for your embedded videos. The AllowedFromDate and AllowedToDate specify start and end times for content availability. Alternatively you can specify the availability in seconds. Keep in mind that either AllowedToDate or ExpirationTimeSeconds can be used, but not both. Lastly you can specify IP addresses or IP address ranges to limit where the content can be viewed.
