Filme Rio-Rio Film Commiion-supported comedy opens in October

Shot in 43 days late last year, Mato Sem Cachorro reaches screens October 4th (the same date when National Dog Day and World Animal Day are celebrated). With locations in iconic Copacabana, the comedy was supported by Filme Rio-Rio Film Commission. We had wide government support, as far as locations are concerned, as well as support from CET Rio for street closures and detours and great logistics ease with parking for our vans and trucks. All thanks to the great relationship between FR-RFC, City Hall and the State Culture Secretariat , says producer Malu Miranda.

Bruno Gagliasso and Leandra Leal play Deco and Zo , the romantic comedy s two leads. We wanted to make the scenes truthful, and Leandra was the best person for that. She also identifies with Zo because she s a producer as well. Meanwhile, Bruno had previously played a comedic character in Passione alongside Leandra and Gabriela Duarte, who s also in the movie. Besides his ability for drama, which we saw in the characters he played on TV, he s got an intuitive talent for comedy, too, and that brings to mind 1930 s leading men , explains director Pedro Amorim. I did a lot of comedy on TV and in the theater, but this is the first time in a motion picture. There s a simple explanation: I was never asked to do a romantic comedy. I like the genre and it s the kind of film we start watching early in our life , says Leandra, about the reason why she accepted the invitation to join the film s cast.

In the film, the two leads meet when Deco almost runs over Zoe s pet dog, Guto. After a two-year relationship, they split. That s when Deco, following questionable advice from cousin Leleco (Danilo Gentili), decides to kidnap the dog, who suffers from a rare condition that makes him faint whenever under stress. It was easier to play opposite the dog than with Danilo Gentili (laughs). I couldn t miss the chance to needle him. We met during the film and had loads of fun on the set , recalls Bruno.
