Hooligan Signs Editor Tom Schachte

Hooligan, a creative post-production boutique that specializes in artistic offline editing and visual effects, has signed award-winning editor Tom Schachte. He joins Hooligan following tenures at Blue Rock and Wild Child, respectively.

Schachte has edited everything from commercials and branded content to TV shows and documentaries. Collaborating with luminaries such as Elma Garcia, Raymond Bark, Scott Duncan, and Marcus Stevens, he has earned a reputation for being a great storyteller and a director's editor. From dialogue to action, his diverse commercial reel includes brands such as AOL, AT&T, eBay, Hasbro, Moviefone, Royal Caribbean, Special Olympics, Toyota, and Verizon.

Tom's reputation preceded him, remarks Hooligan Founder/President Kane Platt. A few years ago I had seen this insane snowboarding video on YouTube that I thought was just so well shot and edited. Flash-forward to meeting Tom for the first time recently, turns out he was the editor behind it. Go watch it and see for yourself. He is an extremely versatile editor who has great style and incredible instincts. And when you bring in someone with his eye, energy and enthusiasm for the work, it ups everyone's game around them. We're very lucky he decided to join us.

Ever since I first met with [Partners] Kane, Eric and Rosemary, I knew Hooligan was the right home for me, adds Schachte. Their reputation as a creative shop is well known, as is the talent who they represent. Between the creative atmosphere and all of the interests and approaches we share as editors, I already feel like part of the family.

Educated in Manchester by way of Penn State University, Schachte's entertainment career embarked as an intern at BBC News. The network eventually turned him loose to cover rock festivals with his Bolex camera. Returning stateside, a 24-year-old Schachte soon found himself heading the editorial department of a Southeast production company. He then spent the next five years working on a CBS childrens show which garnered several Emmy nominations.

Schachte discovered his passion for cutting commercials after heading to Los Angeles to continue his filmmaking career. Honing his craft under legendary editor Jacques Dury, he solidified his niche in advertising before going on to launch Straight Cut. From Budweiser to Boeing, Schachte worked with just about every major brand and agency during his company's 16-year run. Blue Rock ultimately recruited him back to New York, where he has lived ever since.

Schachte is eager to tap into Hooligan's resources and client-base to leverage his experience cutting all commercial genres. Ive always enjoyed the fast turnarounds of advertising, he concludes. Each project presents unique situations and challenges with lots of on-the-fly problem-solving -- and, inherently, each day is different. At Hooligan, not only do I get to continue cutting commercials, but also spend the day with smart, funny people who do great work together.
