FOX 50 Creates First Weekly Bilingual Local TV Program

Every Sunday morning at 10:30am, viewers who speak Spanish, viewers who speak English and viewers who speak both languages can catch up on what is going on in the Latin communities of our state. Hola NC is the brainchild of FOX 50 Account Executive Ana Maria Bonell, a native of Colombia, South America, who saw a need to communicate positive stories about Hispanics in North Carolina.

"Hola NC is a lifestyle program," said Bonell who has been with FOX 50 for three years and formerly sold airtime at Univision, "you may learn about immigration reform, how to cook and prepare a favorite Latin recipe and visit a Railhawks game in a single episode. The goal is to be entertaining and informative."

Hola NC features dynamic bilingual hosts.

The show includes cooking segments.

"When Ana Maria came to me about wanting to bring a Spanish language show to an English speaking station, I saw an opportunity to reach a much broader audience than just Hispanics." said Niel Sollod, Local Sales Director at FOX 50, "The fact is that most Hispanics in our viewing area are bilingual, and in sheer numbers, FOX 50 reaches more Hispanic viewers than the local Univision station, and many English-only speaking viewers can benefit from learning about our vibrant and growing Latin community."

Bonell serves as Executive Producer and Advertising Sales Director for the show. She has landed some impressive interviews, like Colombian native Willy Stewart, CEO of Stewart Enterprises, the company responsible for engineering the new terminal at Raleigh Durham Airport.

Hola NC is receiving local press for being the first of its kind in the Triangle.

Bonell recruited the talents of Ruben Reyes, a television producer from the Dominican Republic, and put together a team of on-air correspondents from Venezuela, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, all are fluent in English and Spanish. She sold the title sponsorship of the program to International Foods, and also has negotiated advertising agreements with Time Warner Cable, Martin and Jones Attorneys, Araneda and Stround Attorneys, and Banco de la Gente (a branch of Peoples Bank.)

"We are showing the positive contribution of Latinos in Raleigh-Durham, from executives and CEOs to Doctors and Lawyers." said Bonell. "There is no other program airing locally in which English and Spanish speakers can see how the Hispanic community is helping the state of North Carolina progress in technology, healthcare and economically."
