Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Delighted with 2 New Fujifilm Visionary Suite Rooms

Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) has been satisfied with their Fujifilm CR system for many years, so when it was time to upgrade to two new DR rooms Fujifilm was invited to tender along with 5 other companies. The Fujifilm Visionary Suite made a very positive impression, as Kathryn Stewart, Superintendent Radiographer/ Advanced Practitioner at RIE explains.

The Fujifilm equipment was superior to anything else we saw. The system was very user friendly; for example, the tube head was simple and easy to manoeuvre, but also has advanced positioning and guidance buttons which are straight forward to use. The large, ergonomic table with easy access foot pedals and manual control also features a plastic surround to prevent patients catching their fingers, and a single panning button for facilitating patient positioning. The console interface was familiar to us, which helped with application training, and offers extra post processing settings. The D-Evo II detectors are light, ergonomic, antibacterial and IPX6 waterproofed, and the 3 detector solution will integrate between the two rooms. The system is well colour coded (mapped to the examination selection from the RIS system) and the equipment is very attractive to look at.

We've experienced multiple benefits since the new Visionary Suites were installed. Workflow has dramatically increased resulting in rapid throughput of patients. As we are the major tertiary trauma centre for city of Edinburgh and it surrounding areas, we have many polytrauma patients who benefit from the advanced DR process with follow up images. The image quality is excellent and translates identically into PACS. Virtual Grid is revolutionary, resulting in significant dose reduction and making mobile work much easier for patient and radiographer (no bulky grid, only the ergonomic detector). Stitching is very quick and easy to set up, and on table stitching is innovative for us and our Orthopaedic colleagues. We have patients with significant metal implants for whom standing for stitched films can be challenging, plus we can also reduce the overall dose when we stitch on table.

Pre- and post-sales support and communication from Fujifilm has been, as expected, excellent. Applications training has also been exceptional with comprehensive teaching guide, telephone support and phased software introduction which prevented us feeling overwhelmed when we first went solo. Overall I am delighted with my rooms. I have no hesitation in choosing Fujifilm again and we are very happy to be a Visionary Suite reference site.
