Emmy Award - winning design and branding studio Friends of Mine and its Creative Director and Co-Founder Jeremy Lindenmier have partnered with client OtterBox to envision, produce and launch a unique, seven-part brand film spanning seven locations around the world.
When OtterBox first approached Friends of Mine for this assignment, Lindenmier was inspired by the global possibilities of this exciting new branding initiative. OtterBox, the No. 1-selling smartphone case brand in the U.S. and a leader in rugged outdoor lifestyle products, innovates bold products that deliver confidence and trust in any pursuit. OtterBox's goal was to develop a brand awareness lead-up that would be both inspiring and wide-reaching.
The vision was simple and clearly evident in their campaign. Entitled Pass It On, Friends of Mine produced the unscripted story of an iPhone as it makes a one-way trip around the world. The film - which can be viewed either in its entirety, or in seven distinct vignettes - explores the journey of one iPhone as presented by seven ambassadors with seven unique passions around the globe. Yet, as seen in the films, these people find commonality through technology, ultimately becoming united through their authenticity, diversity and passion.
The Friends of Mine team wove together the stories and backdrops with a tight production team that traveled around the world profiling these seven social media ambassadors: A bull wrangler in Deadwood, South Dakota; a TV host in Mexico City; a chef in Brooklyn; an adventure photographer in Iceland; a fashion model in Paris; an art director in Hong Kong; and an artist in San Francisco.
The OtterBox series film Pass It On was recently nominated for Best Video by a Lifestyle Company in the Industry Track by Citizine Networks, Inc.
The Pass It On' campaign spanned seven cities and three continents, making it an exciting yet challenging project to produce, said Paul Miller, OtterBox Creative Director. Lindenmier and the Friends of Mine crew were strategic in making the vision a reality, bringing our concept to life in an authentic way.
Says Lindenmier, Pass It On was truly a dream project -a great journey - one that wasn't complete until each stop was linked together to form an amazing short film. Our objective was to capture the different lifestyles and cultures of seven unique individuals and their own personal style that easily fit across seven OtterBox product series. It was quite an adventure, filled with inspiration, passion, breathtaking views, delicious food and profoundly interesting individuals. Traveling around the world to shoot these films was the opportunity of a lifetime - and even allowed us to check off a few bucket list items along the way! OtterBox debuted its Pass It On seven-part film at a pop-up shop in San Francisco that coincided with the announcement of the most recent iPhone devices. The company quickly followed that in-store promotion with social media outreach and a strong web launch that has secured highly positive feedback from new and existing audiences around the globe.
