TDF Demonstrates Network is Ready for Terabit with Ciena

At the inauguration of its new ProxiCenter Aix Marseille data centre on October 9th 2014, TDF completed a live 1Terabit per second (Tb/s) trial with Ciena 's (NYSE: CIEN) 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, demonstrating the future-proof capabilities and scalability of its next-generation network.

This 1Tb/s trial, the equivalent of 31 HD movies being transferred simultaneously, was conducted over TDF's existing metro fiber network between the major traffic site Marseille and TDF's Euclyde data centre in Sophia Antipolis.

As companies increasingly rely on data, they need fast and resilient access to their storage and outsource environments. The successful completion of the trial proves that TDF will be able to leverage Ciena's WaveLogic coherent optical processors to seamlessly upgrade its existing infrastructure to support increased traffic without any modifications to its existing network.

This trial also demonstrates the capability and quality of TDF's network infrastructure to accommodate the ultra-high bandwidth demands of cloud computing and data centre connectivity, as well as support for multimedia applications needed for video processing and broadcasting distributed video content. With high-capacity connectivity, TDF can quickly adapt to meet surging bandwidth requirements and prepare the network for future innovations, such as bandwidth on-demand.
