RT Joins Seachtain na Gaeilge 2015 and says "Bain Triail Aisti!" 25 February 2015: RT aims to surprise for Seachtain na Gaeilge, March 1st to 17th 2015, with a range of new content across television, radio, online and mobile, marking Irelands leading Irish-language and culture festival.
R n n Mac Con Iomaire, RT Group Head of Irish Language, says: RT is going Gaeilge from March 1st. New animated series Inis Spraoi will debut as Gaeilge on RT jr; 2fm will speak a different language from March 1 with much of the station's imaging switching to Irish for the week. Blathnaid N Chofaigh will present a new RT Raidi na Gaeltachta series aimed at Leaving Cert students preparing for their oral Irish exams. Five new Irish-language programmes will air on RT One. Audiences can track upcoming programmes, and catch-up on anything they've missed too, by following @rte on Twitter.
RT One
RT One will celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge with five new Irish-language programmes. Three-part series Gliondar starts on March 2 and looks at the passions and exuberance that grip us as we follow our own individual pursuits, looking at female power-lifters, vintage car enthusiasts and bee-keeping. Meanwhile, a two-part Cloch le Carn will look at the lives of Jackie Healy Rae & Dr. Ian Paisley.
The Works, Nationwide and the Today show will all feature Irish-language items during Seachtain na Gaeilge, while coverage of the St. Patrick's Day parade will see plenty of craic as Gaeilge as Bl thnaid N Chofaigh co-hosts the celebration.
As always there will be plenty of Gaeilge peppered throughout RT 's output over the Seachtain na Gaeilge period, from continuity to nuacht to aimsir. RT One's Six-One news will have a distinct Irish-language focus on St. Patrick's Day, with a mixture of Irish-language presentation and news packages.
RT jr
Kids are invited to join the adventures of Sean, Rois n and their classmates who hop on board a school-boat which takes them to their playschool on a magical island of Inis Spraoi. Reuben and B in the RT jr Postroom will be practicing their c pla focail across the fortnight in advance of St. Patrick's Day. Twig n's Muc will be having all his adventures as Gaeilge too. Seachtain na Gaeilge will also see a significant increase in other Irish-language content on RT jr, with Joe & Jack and the Tell Me a Story strand.
RT 2
Two Tube on RT 2 will launch its own glossary of internet lingo as Gaeilge, offering viewers a reliable, Irish-language alternative to omg , lol and the rest. The show will also be creating its own mini-drama starring presenters Bl thnaid Treacy and Stephen Byrne. A special Two Tube competition will ask viewers to guess the name of a pop song from lyrics translated into Irish... Meanwhile, Sally will invite musical group Seo Linn into the SwipeTV studio.
RT 2fm
RT 2fm is going Gaeilge from March 1, with all of the station's programming imaging switching to Irish for Seachtain na Gaeilge. As well as giving Irish a greater prominence on air for the period, RT 2fm will also broadcast a show every weekday night for Seachtain na Gaeilge, with Eoghan McDermott in the su och n te.
RT Radio 1
It will be a dramatic Seachtain na Gaeilge on RT Radio 1, with L on Mo Bhearna as the Drama on One on 15 March. The play, directed by K la musician Rossa Snodaigh and featuring actors Emer O'Carroll and Sorcha Fox, is an adaptation of the Dublin Fringe Festival award-winning Tick My Box. L on Mo Bhearna is a dark yet funny look at the world of speed-dating and is produced by the Leitrim-based Spl dar Theatre Company.
The Book on One for the week of 2nd March is Uaigheanna agus Sc alta Eile by Daithi O Muiri, while the history of the Irish language in Ireland will feature on The History Show. Sunday Miscellany will also feature items as Gaeilge.
Shows such as Today with Sean O'Rourke will cover issues relating to the Irish language, and music programmes The South Wind Blows and The Rolling Wave will be presented bilingually. The week will also see presenters and continuity announcers using links as Gaeilge.
RT Raidi na Gaeltachta
It's Seachtain na Gaeilge every seachtain on RT Raidi na Gaeltachta, but for this year, SnaG will be marked on Ireland's national Irish-language radio station with a new series aimed at students preparing for their Leaving Cert Irish exam. Gaeilge na hArdteiste is a 6 part series presented by Bl thnaid N Chofaigh starting Sunday 1 March covering all aspects of the Irish Leaving Cert exam. The first three programmes will focus exclusively on the Oral exam, with commentary and advice from qualified Irish-language teachers. The other three programmes in the series will cover poetry, prose, the essay, and the aural. The series will also include advice on how to keep physically and mentally healthy during the exams. The half-hour shows will be broadcast each night from 8.30pm to 9:00pm until Friday March 6th and will be available to download.
To mark the launch of the series, @rte and @rternag have partnered on a special Twitter competition to give away an iPhone6.
Munster magazine programme An Saol Dheas will head to Cork and Limerick, and Donegal's Barrsc alta will be in Cill Chartha in the southwest of the county. Iris Aniar will celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge as they broadcast live from Galway City, and Nuacht a hAon head to Leinster House for L na Gaeilge in the D il. R n n Mac Aodha Bhu will also keep you in touch with the latest Seachtain na Gaeilge news.
RT lyric fm
RT lyric fm will be treating listeners to an engaging selection of sheanfhocail across the week, spoken by Evelyn Cockburn and Peter Browne. John Kelly will also mark Seachtain na Gaeilge on his programme, The John Kelly Ensemble, on March 11, by including the voices of Darach Cath in, Kate Bush
