Tl-Qubec Implements Flexible EVS Workflow for Fast-Turnaround Studio Production

(15/04/2013) French language public television network T l -Qu bec, has implemented a powerful fast-turnaround studio production workflow from EVS, the leading provider of live video production systems. The flexible new workflow for three studios that T l -Qu bec rents to external clients enables it to maximize the use of its studios while reducing costs. The workflow is being used for a variety of productions including weekly public affairs program Bazzo.tv, daily pre-school series 1, 2, 3 G ant, children's programming Les Argonautes and Dis-moi Tout, and game shows La Une Qui Tue and G nial!

T l -Qu bec has equipped each studio with an identical EVS workflow based on the XT series server. The three studios are interconnected through EVS' centralized media sharing network, enabling them to share clips for shows that are produced at multiple studios. The fully file-based workflow eliminates the cost of tapes and requires minimal maintenance and management by T l -Qu bec staff.

As a studio rental facility we needed a highly reliable and flexible solution that enables us to host many different productions from day to day without having to change the entire set-up, said Michel S guin, technical director, T l -Qu bec. With the XT server's native support for multiple codecs and the ability to easily configure ingest and output channels, the EVS solution gives us the flexibility that enables us to maximize the use of our studios.

Each studio has a six-channel XT server for ingesting all ISO camera feeds from the studios, with native support for multiple codecs. The IPDirector video production management suite provides flexibility and powerful asset management capabilities. Its IPEdit timeline editing module enables T l -Qu bec to edit footage as it's being ingested, reducing turn-around times.

XStore media storage provides a single, easily-managed, nearline storage system, eliminating the need for T l -Qu bec to catalog, store and manage numerous external drives. XStore's transcoding capabilities also enable codecs to be changed faster than real-time without needing to create low-resolution proxies.

Each studio also has XSquare and XTAccess software for managing transfers. In addition, EVS XFReader is used for viewing MXF or GXF files while the LSM remote controller is used for instant playout.
